In your opinion, who have been the best British band thus far?
I'm sure that many would choose The Beatles if for no other reason than their sheer musical diversity. For me personally, as a Mancunian and somebody who loves dance music, it has to be New Order.

steve, me too, even though i was born in '78. my older brothers were really into them and that inspired me to collect all their stuff and the early joy division stuff. incidentally, which is your favouriate album?

ihavent a fave album but mr disco,liar,perfect kiss etc are great songs ieven bought retro from a 2nd hand dealer and the early singles from 1987,89 having already having the best of in my collection.dave78 wrote:

yeah, all great songs. i've actually just been listening to the republic album which i wasn't bowled over by at first. listening to it now though songs like 'spooky' and 'everyone everywhere' sound amazing! moody music for wet bank hol in manchester!

I for one wouldn't choose The Beatles.
There's no denying the impact they had in their day, but as musicians I think they're vastly overrated.
They're arguably the most "important" British band, but certainly not the "best".
