my problem is with the sheer inconsequentiality of most storylines chosen as a back drop/metaphor for what is sometimes incongruously called "adult" entertainment.
too many porn narratives are either cheap, parodic take-offs of whatever happens to be big in hollywood on the day - e.g edward penishands - or they use mainstream genres as an off-the-peg context, simply to amuse otherwise jaded participants. thus, 99 times out of a 100, whatever sex takes place is crudely slotted into the narrative arc with a bare minimum of consideration for the storyline. hardly surprising, as setting a porn flick in the wild west, or a film noir, serves no production purpose other than to fill up screen time and allow those involved to sprinkle themselves with a little faux-hollywood glitter. as an artistic means of heightening the sensual involvement of the viewer, it is utterly bogus - not to say mind-numblingly tedious.
in an ideal porniverse, directors/producers would develop characters with believable motivations and scenarios in which those motivations could be credibly realised. if you can accomplish that, then what the characters do to and with each other, moves into a whole new realm of viewer interest.
