I've not heard the term 'Lagos shuttle' before, but as I've said this is a world issue - people coming from abroad to use our services, not just an issue with Nigerians. I'm not sure why the staff at Guys and St Thomas's specifically chose Nigerians to illustrate how foreigners come here and get things on the NHS for free.

There are more than one or two dishonest people in Nigeria. To clamp down on foreigners abusing the NHS they really ought to demand people show proof of residency before treatment can be given. I doubt they'll ever do that though. Do you remember when the government, a few years ago, considered the issue of ID cards? People went on about 'civil liberties' and the thing never went ahead. The government said it would be voluntary if it was ever introduced anyway, so the whole thing would have been pointless. I imagine they'll just continue to trust people who show up at hospitals, and they'll always be some who abuse it.

You responses to me in the earlier sub-thread have overtaken these ones. See above for my responses to the whole Nigerian mother thing.

"Max. Don't waste your time arguing with DJ. If he thinks tomorrow is Sunday he is right and the other 7 billion of the human race are not only wrong but stupid."
The debates on here are always good fun. Lol.

"The gross national income per Nigerian is about ?1000/yr. so only a very, very small proportion of the population could afford to come to the UK, not the "average" that you refer to Max."
The poor would find it difficult, the lower-middle-class and upwards would be the ones doing it - coming with fake papers to blag it on the NHS and so on. The Nigerian super-rich would likely go private in London.

It was on tonight!
Did anyone see the episode, it looks like it's the ONLY episode, tonight? Quite interesting, a few residents co-operated but many just threw things at the camera crew and threatened them. They were hoping to make a series but got lots of abuse and were even physically attacked. At the end the crew were seen being run out of town with one guy saying "next time it will be with a gunshot!". Oh well, the series never happened, but they managed to make one episode out of it! Lol.

The producers need to make a documentary about the real Labour party. Life in Islington can be brutal when the local deli runs out of Fois Gras, Truffles and Chateau Neuf du Pap. How it is so difficult to get a made to measure suit under ?2000 these days and how Harriet Harperson really does nail Ed Balls with a strap-on.

These '... street' programmes can be interesting - first "Benefits Street" then "Immigration Street". I think "Leftie Street", filmed around the Georgian houses of Islington would be interesting. Showing how left-wingers really are - talking about how unfair the hierarchical structure of earnings and ownership in society is, as they sit there quaffing Bollinger in their large mansion and whilst having numerous directorships which line their pockets very nicely. Yes, "Leftie Street" would be an interesting series.
