Immigration Street...

Post by max_tranmere »

It's been a while since we had a debate about immigration on the forum (it must have been all of a few days now!) so here's another one: Channel 4 are making a show called 'Immigration Street' and from the sound of it it will probably be similar to that 'Benefits Street' series that was on. It will likely be done in such a way that we're supposed to empathise with the subjects, and one or two will emerge as celebs and end up in the tabloids regularly and appear on other TV shows aswell. This show is taking place in Southampton and a number of people turned up at Channel 4's offices in London at the weekend to protest about it. The fact they've done this has just given the show more publicity and will get it more viewers. I hadn't even heard about it until the press gave coverage to this forthcoming show, now that I know about it I will probably tune in.

We have far too many illegal immigrants. Simples. Apart from the hard working Polish and Portuguese they don't want to integrate, treat our laws with impunity and their women and girls are regarded as possessions instead of humans. A large number work in the black or grey economies so don't pay tax or NI but expect to get NHS treatment and education for their children (as long as it doesn't go against their middle ages religions). I notice from our local paper, and where I live is among the least ethnically diverse areas in the UK, the massive upsurge in very violent crime and theft being carried out by immigrants. Add in the fact that they can speak English when shopping or in the local pub but whoooooaaaa can't speak without a translator in the housing office or courts....

Come back Enoch. We need men of your vision and bravery.

Let's hope the programme continues to give you a reason to be angry and appalled.

I think a lot or people work in the black economy, from locals to immigrants, the cash-in-hand economy is rife.

A lot of immigrants do jobs no one else will do, all the road sweepers, building site labourers, bar and waiting staff round my way are from abroad. These jobs Brits wont do. There are loads of eastern Europeans in the rural areas, doing fruit picking as the locals (many of them anyway) won't do those jobs.

My opposition to large scale out of control immigration is we don't have the room, the services can't cope, a number take more than they give, aren't loyal, and a number are a security risk. We should have a points system related to the job vacancies available.

I'll be watching the series when Channel 4 screen it.

I wonder how this series will cover the subject, Channel 4 will likely not do a 'Daily Mail job' of reporting the immigration issue in Southampton, it will probably be slanted the other way where the immigrants in the street are seen complaining a lot about racism and how the locals don't respect them enough. It should be interesting anyway.

Jobs no one else will do..

It's not that people won't do these jobs it's that people can't afford to take these jobs. Immigrants don't have to support a standard of living and any cash they make is worth far more in their own country so they are willing to flog themselves to death for poor wages.

Also remember that working tax credits will boost a couples pay as well on as we subsidise employers.

I'm sure you don't care, as it doesn't fit in with your narrow-minded views, but ILLEGAL immigrants can't get treatment on the NHS, nor can they get "handouts" in the form of various benefits, etc. Only those LEGALLY here can do so.

Yeah, life on the mean streets of Cumbria must be tough. A bit like the Bronx but with a National Park.

There is some truth in that, but young people still living at home, who have few responsibilities and few outgoings, could afford to do them. In small towns and rural areas where property, and the cost of living, is much less than that of London, I do think it's a case of the locals not wanting to do these jobs. That's why immigrants come and do them.
