Saying Banks was overrated is bad enough, but rating him well below Woods and cowboy Clemence is a joke.

It is a shame that keepers only seem to be remembered for their mistakes (with the exception of Mr Banks).

I am 45 now and as far as I am concerned the best we have had in my memory was Seaman. Others may have been slightly better at individual skills like shotstopping (or saves if you like), or claiming crosses or whatever but I think Seaman had the whole package. He commanded the whole defence. His communication with his defenders was excellent. His positioning and anticipation were first class and I find it very sad that he is now the subject of such scorn because of a couple of mistakes at the end of his career (and his ponytail of course).
What would we give for somebody of his quality now?????

Sir Matt Busby stated that the reason Man Utd were in a position to win the European Cup in 1968 was because he bought Alex Stepney from Chelsea. often wondered what would've happened if Stepney had played instead of Bonetti when Banks was out,Stepney was the steadier keeper.

OK, now the conv has moved away from English goalkeepers to the best Im gonna chip in. I play in goal for my 5aside team and always preferred to be in goal than outfield ever since i was a kid, not that it counts for a lot but in my opinion there's no debate even for greatest goalkeeper ever.........

LEV YASHIN. undisputed. if you don't know him

google him and his achievments. he is OFFICIALLY the best ever. rip.
