A stripped down welfare state and low coporate taxes have done wonders for the Irish enconomy.Their standard of living has massively increased since ditching keynisan mismanagement of state and economy.

I thought welfare was a safety net for those who had fallen on hard times. Not a way of life.

A client state is the dream of socialists.A dystopia for all freedom lovers.

Inheritance tax is morally wrong ihmo. The state has no business confisicating the legacy of a citizens lifes work. I speak as someone who earns well below the average salary.

Abolishing it wont make any difference to the rich anymore than it will to the poor.

Class hatred has bedeviled Britain for too long.I cant see how hating the "rich" will make Britain a fairer society. But I guess it helps some losers give vent to their own shortcomings.Millions were murded by socialists in the last century because they belonged to the "wrong" class or caste.

Only by giving freedom and incentive for all to contribute to the well being of the nation can create a fairer society. But with enough checks and balances to ensure no one is exploited.

Giles,
The fact that Tony Blair and many others had their University fees paid by the state is totally irrelevant to todays economic situation. In those days very few people went to University, today there are thousands more benefiting from a University education. The present system could not be sustained. Very few politicians disagree with this point.

It does not make me the slightest bit envious. As I said before I am more than happy to pay my own University fees. I'm not a scrounger! By the way, you don't borrow money from a finance company to pay tuition fees.

mucho_macho_man,
The amount of people who are feckless is a tiny tiny percentage of the population...despite what you might read in the Sun or Daily Mail. Corporate tax avoidance is a much bigger problem, involving millions of pounds as opposed to a few thousand pounds.

The former done for greed, the latter for need.
