It must be more than coincidence that Arsenal have made supposed superstars Real Madrid (with David Beckham!!) and now Juventus look very, very ordinary?? It seems to me strange that everybody is saying how poor Real were and how piss poor Juventus were last night, sometimes you can only play as good as you are allowed to though methinks.
If Arsenal play the same hiqh tempo football Juventus will have no answer to them in the 2nd leg, especially with all their absentees.
Looks like being not good enough to compete for the Premier League in England is a pretty good recipe for European Glory as Liverpool showed last year ... strange that.
Juventus Who?
Re: Juventus Who?
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
Arsenal
Yeah well done to the Arsenal , i thought it was a good game , i'm a neutral as well . Roy Everton couldn't defend the cup-winners cup victory of '85 'cos they'd won the english league and would have been in the big one , the european cup , but as you may view it as a toffee , they were possibly the best team in europe at the time , ironic the red half getting all english clubs banned and then coming close to getting their place 20years later . Was it Real madrid that a few seasons earlier took Real Zaragoza's place as winners finishing outside the top 4 in la liga ? . As for the Gooners taking Spurs's place should they finish fourth , i think is wrong i think if eufa say 4 teams from a country , then it should be 4 , and then whereever the winners come from that's seperate , they're the holders they should be in it . My mates a spurs season ticket holder , but i can't see all this "history" that they tell me about , i remeber the '84 eufa cup , my team should have had that had they not been cheated by the ref' , and 2 fa cups , but nowt else , anyone tell me more ? . JJ .
Re: Juventus Who?
Thats absolute tosh and Uefa made it clear that there rules were wrong by changing the rule afterwards.
It was a fuck up by bureaucrats and of Uefas (and our FA) doing so why should Liverpool be penalised for that? They shouldn't and weren't.
Where the rule was stupid was if say the year before when Porto won it and they finished outside of the top 2 in the Portuguese league (Portugal only had two champs lge places at the time) then they would have gone back in as holders and the 2nd place team in the Portuguese Lge would have been demoted to the Uefa Cup.
This was also true of any country that had 3 Champs Lge teams in that any winner of the Champions Lge who didn't qualify by there Lge placing would go back into the competition at the expense of the 3rd place team.
The reason why contries with 4 teams (England, Italy and Spain) didn't have this was because Uefa limited it a maximum of 4 clubs when the initial group stages were 4 groups of 4 as they didn't want two clubs from the same country in the same group.
Well it's been 8 groups of 4 for a while and that wasn't then a valid reason. Uefa admitted they should have changed this rule when they expanded the group stage and admitted they were wrong in not doing so.
They believed they didn't need to do so as Uefa claimed to have a gentlemans agreement with the English, Spanish and Italian FA's in that if such an event happened then the winners would re qualify at the expense of the 4th place team something that the Spanish FA did in 2001.
This was confirmed by Simon Jordan the owner of Crystal Palace who said that it was mentioned at the start of 2004-5 season and that every club was aware of this including Everton. It was he who blamed the FA for the mess.
It goes on further than that but I am fed up typing now and if you haven't got the point of it all by now then I am banging my head against a wall but I'll finish by saying that if Arsenal finish outside of the top 4 and win the Champs Lge then they should rightly go back in as holders even if it's Liverpool who finish 4th this season who get turfed out.

Re: Juventus Who?
I'm not sure they will have the support. Their crowd were quiet in Turin in the 2nd leg last year and it wasn't a sell out. Unlikely to be this year either.
I just can't see a turn around. They were pathetic last night. They'll have 3 players suspended, Del Piero will miss it because of injury as well. It will take a performance of pride, passion and never say die committment from Juventus and that's something they seem to be lacking, big time.
