The credit card is direct debit by Portland Enterprises and, whilst the credit card company can halt payment (eventually) and credit me back, there is no mechanism I can use to stop the company applying for the money each month should they choose to ignore my correspondence and calls. Eventually the credit card company will blacklist them.
Unlike a bank direct debit there is no controlling this sort of account once you have set it up apart from proving to the credit card company that you have persistantly done everything by the book to cancel the account if the vendor is, as Portland/TVX obviously are, determined to ignore legitimate requests to cancel.
In view of my experience I'd suggest that no-one entertains ANY credit card arrangements for more than a one off payment be it within the adult industry or elsewhere.

How true. Part of the problem is that the rip off merchants think the punters will be too embarrassed to kick up a fuss. Well some of us aren't.

Tell your credit card company, sort it out, or close your account.
Credit card companys are a dime a dozen bud.

Absolutely correct. Every customer, or potential customer, should automatically do this!
Do NOT let these rip-off merchants win!

You need to watch out for the credit card companys, they used to be even worse.
I had a problem with a credit card company a few years ago and was told that, once i had authorised a payment to a company once, they can charge your card again at anytime in the future. Its how the system works. Even when i closed the account i was told if they claimed another payment they would forward the bill on to me.
Don't give up, keep a copy of all letters. It took me 2 1/2 years to get my money back(as it had been payed on a direct debit before i realised), and they only payed me in good faith as my claim hadn't been processed properly!!!
Thats credit card company's for you, stick to a debit card, you can use them everywhere nowaday's.

Credit card companies are no different to other institutions using computers for all their transactions - everything is automated and it is a pain for them to break into a system for one person. However contract law and the FSA are on the side of the consumer and, if you have followed a cancellation procedure to the letter, under the law and banking regs they have to support you.
If they get difficult, it is far better to phone them many times a day using their free phone or reverse charge numbers and complain again and again -they will soon get fed up, especially if you threaten them with their regulator (the FSA) - or better yet complain to the FSA at the same time as you are bombarding the company and have them take up your case.
At present my credit card co is making the right noises.
BTW, does anyone have a geographic number for TVX - presumably with a London area code?

Thanks Jacques - exactly the same registered address as Portland Enterprises "who are not TVX, just our agents"

To be fair to TVX, they need the money. Firstly because subscriptions must be on the slide and secondly they may need to pay Ofcon a fine due to them showing R18 content for a couple of weeks.
I get the strong impression that the UK adult industry struggling. The only way out is to fight Ofcon.?
