But if they are correct in thier interpretation, why tone down? Why not tell ofcon that they have done nothing wrong and carry on?
They've been caught out and know it and will eventually be fined.

Who gives a rats arse what ofcon think they talk out of their middle class hypocritical backsides. They are not moral guardians but a bunch of out of touch oppressors. Why should they have the right to say we cant see boobs before a certain time on adult oriented channels when I can put sky movies on and see them through the day on the pin protected channels. As for the balls they regurgitate constantly about "protecting the poor innocent children from the evils of the naked human body", its about time parents started to take responsibility for protecting their own children instead of expecting everybody else to do it for them. I wish more of the adult channels would interpret the rules that way or discard them altogether in favour of an approach which actually makes sense. But as long as there are whining, wannabe mary whitehouses out there I imagine we will have to put up with the tame stuff. It is a shame the channels cannot put aside their rivalries and unite against the rules.
Re: Stunning hour of porn on Sky
They won't unite because for some unexplicable reason they make shit loads of money out of the current bollocks.

Don't believe the hype as Public Image once sang. These channels have gone mega tame, no close ups, no licking or insertions and the camera man is still under strict orders to show nothing.
2 of the FTA channels have gone in a week, I can see the encrypted stuff going the same way if they don't give the punters what they pay their HARD EARNED CASH for.

I think that was Public Enemy, not Public Image (Ltd)

Sorry, I stand corrected!
Re: Stunning hour of porn on Sky
In my opinion, the main reason that they won't unite, is that they also make a shed-load of money out of their R18 DVD businesses.
If they showed R18 material on satellite, their DVD sales would drop, and a very profitable division of their business would be cut out.
They like the status quo because there are plenty of idiots in the UK who pay for the satellite soft core shite, and plenty more who buy their DVDs.
The only smart ones are those who have a Euro dish pointed at Hotbird/Hispasat/Thor etc

Re: Stunning hour of porn on Sky
I would think that they would make back anything they lost from dvd sales through the increase in profits from the sky channels. However since a 2 hour dvd costs ?20 would the channels then be justified in hiking their prices to ?10-?20 per night if they showed hardcore ? I do not believe that it is only the channels that should unite but all the adult industry as well as the general public. An organised campaign rather than a few emails in dribs and drabs. Ultimately they have to listen to public opinion. It is a shame that the sport have had to tone down though because if they had continued doing the harder stuff without complaints it would have set a bit of a precedent and gives a starting block of "well they have been doing it to this strength for x amount of time and people havent complained."
Re: Stunning hour of porn on Sky
The sad irony is that there is nothing but an 'ofcon personal whim' preventing them from broadcasting R18 equivalent material.

I don't believe this to be the case at all. They have been doing the 'harder' stuff on and off for years, and no other channel has followed their lead. Precedents carry no legal weight with Ofcon, so the argument that 'we have been doing it for years, so we are ok to carry on' would make no difference, they are still breaking Ofcon's code, and Ofcon would have got on the case sooner or later.
As I have said before, the adult channels have no interest in pushing the boundaries, only in maximising their profits. Only a concerted, organised, combined strategy, by the broadcasters, flaunting Ofon's code, with the intention of challenging the inevitable censure/fine in the courts, would have any chance of a change in the current situation. And that ain't gonna happen!
