I've been dabbling in the adult movie business and would appreciate some advice from contributors to this forum. The main thing I'd like to know is how to go about making money from the films I've made. So far I've made several short films with 6 girls (4 hardcore, 2 softcore). I've sold a few of these tapes to individuals I've met via the Internet, etc. but ideally I'd like to sell them (and any future films I make) to a wider audience.
There seem to be 2 options: either sell the films to a big company which will pay me a small percentage of what they make from selling the things themselves, or pay a lot of money to get them certificated (if that's the correct word) by the BBFC and then place a few ads in magazines etc, hoping to sell enough copies to make back the money spent on certification. Has anyone got any better ideas?

Re: Porn Producer Wannabe
The latter option would be illegal as you can't sell R18 by mail order. If you are doing that you migt as well not bother to get them certificated and save the money. That is if you are talking about selling direct to the consumer of course.
Re: Porn Producer Wannabe
I'd rather keep it legal! I was assuming that I might still be able to sell edited R18 versions. I know they're not as 'hard' as continental stuff but I've heard (via this forum) that much stronger stuff is allowed nowadays.
Re: Porn Producer Wannabe
Alec someone needs to tell these guys you can make more money driving a taxi, % etc%etc.. The facts are easy there is only a very small number of legal outlets in the UK, they set the price they pay either high at ?5.00 to producers and order a few or low ?3.00 and order tons so take into account BBFC/TAPES/COVERS/TRANSPORT o dear.
So its for the love then,

For the love? Never! Whilst I was getting my knob gobbled by various lovelies I always kept my mind fixed on the financial side of things.
But seriously folks, how about people like, say, Marcus Allen? Do they not make a reasonable amount of dosh? Or would they have to, er, bend the rules a bit in order to make decent money? (We're talking hypothetically here of course. I'm sure none of them would do anything underhand!)

Re: Porn Producer Wannabe
As far as I know, Marcus Allen isn't about to be included in this years Sunday Times rich list. Seriously though now is not a good time to start off in this business. The whole adult industry is suffering from massive over production as more and more people think this is a way to make a 'quick buck'with a camcorder and a couple of mates from down the pub. This just isn't going to happen. Even if you've shot the best movie in the world you've then got to sell it, which is where it starts getting tricky,[and very expensive] involving flying all over the place [i.e. the world] for meetings [if you can get a meeting in the first place that is!, if you just send them a tape no-one will look at it, it will just sit in someone's ofice for ever] and then as an unknown producer you'll get short shrift if you've only got the one movie. You need 3 or 4 movies shot and finished to start off [ I had 5 Ben Dover movies finished before I even went looking for a deal] because companies need to schedule releases months in advance, and if a film is successful they need something to follow it up straight away. I would be more than willing to have a look at what you've done, with the possibility of putting it out under the Ben Dover umbrella. E-mail me. Ben Dover.
