Seems everyone is having their own awards these days. TVX. ETO. UKAP. Seems a lot of people are not comfortable with having one big grand universal one though I have absolutely no idea why (I'm being sarcastic)
So the point of this post.
We never hear from the man who dips his hands in his pockets..or taps on his keyboard to a torrent site as the case may be.
So if there was an awards system in place, who would everyone really vote for?
Best Male Performer?
best Female Performer?
Best dvd?
Newcomer of the year?
Best Website?
Best online scene
Best production company
Best reality/ gonzo series
Best amateur series?
I could go on. I never hear you guys talking about such things. Maybe BGAFD should have their golden globes equivalent to the oscars version that may help to tip the scales in genuine voting processes where nominations might come to a tie.
What does everyone eles think? I think there are some unsung heroes out there that dont get a mention on here.
What say you the people? Rally forth and have your own online voting system and lets see what the people really feel about UK porn.
I for one would like to know
There is a no real accurate version of the awards as every group of people will be biased but it would be good to see what people on here would vote for since most others are doing it anyway.

Re: Awards
I'm with you, I think we are sorely lacking in the UK when it comes to recognition and praise. We have groups that have come together and formed their own versions of the awards but we still don't have our very own AVN.
A yearly, crazy song and dance about the UK industry a la AVN awards would be awesome.
My winners in selected cats;
Best Male Performer? Keni Styles
Best Female Performer? Syren Sexton
Best dvd?
Newcomer of the year? Dean Van Damme
Best Website? Subams
Best online scene?
Best production company? Killergram
Best reality/ gonzo series? Undercover Lover
Best amateur series?
+ a cat of my own;
Best Unsung Starlet? Carla Cox

Re: Awards
I like the idea of a BIG awards do with sun paparatsie maybe but can we please have it up North, London seems to get all the parties. We need more catagories than that so theres a chance I might get nominated. When I started in porn my ambition was to win a bra (best supporting actress) and i was gutted when I realised no matter how hard i worked i could never win that particular award as it didnt exist!
You have a good list of catagories but I cant offer my two bits as every time I proclaim such and such to be my fav male to work with they leave the industy and I cant jinx everyone or id get lonley x

"I think we are sorely lacking in the UK when it comes to recognition and praise"
... I'm not sure how both these sentences can be correct.
"We never hear from the man who dips his hands in his pockets"
...if you believe this, then follow the AVN example: put aside factional differences (for once), hold a massive regular annual gig, invite your audience to take part in the voting AND to come and watch (yes, that means tickets for ordinary punters, however hard that might be to stomach), and celebrate it big-style like Vegas does.

Re: Awards
Do I detect a rebuke when you say .."invite ordinary punters" Cool Cat?
The popularity of UKAPs parties are because it is strictly industry and the attendance is down to the fact it is a networking party. This means people turn up to meet others to get work as well as socialise
I myself am not against the public though opinion in the past at me stating this would have you believe. Why would producers be against fans when they are the ones that have supported us with their hard earned?
Its been explained before why we cant have an open meet the fans party because a lot of models simply wouldnt turn up
Proof of this claim can be made with parties that were open to the public that were least attended by models in the industry for the somple fact a lot of girls dont like the lascivious attentions of the few who have spoiled it for the rest.
The only reason the BGAFD parties did well was because Wendy Taylor was instrumental in its orgnaisation and she knew the girls who would only be happy to meet fans in a social atmosphere and even then there was a few complaints.
It only takes a few before girlfriends of those girls wont come because their friend isnt coming ...another example was the Wicked Tease parties hosted by Elizabeth Lawrence; crashed and burned with an 5 page A4 list of porn industry luminaries and only two girls turned up to a party sold out with male fans so lets not make this about producers trying to ruin the fun of fans.
That aside, Masie that awards list wasn't extensive but the more awards there are the more expensive it becomes the more it needs to be attended but EVEN MORE TO THE POINT: I was really aiming it at the good folk on this site to see where their thoughts lie on those categories.

Re: Awards
Coolcat, a few points...
First, in terms of how the AVN awards work, especially when it comes to tickets for the non-industry public.
This is only a relatively recent development. The first year I remember this actually happening was 2007 (January of course). This has not been quite the success that AVN had hoped for. They always claim it's sold out, but I can tell you for certain that this wasn't the case in either 2007 or 2008. Can't speak from first hand experience about the last 2 years, but I've been told it's been more or less the same.
Second, unless I'm mistaken, the "fans" section has been completely separate from the industry section with little to no chance for interaction between the two.
Finally, on awards parties/shows in general...
In the states, both fans and industry alike have become rather skeptical of awards in general. And it's not just AVN that gives out awards. XBiz, XRCO, AEBN, and a host of others also have their own "awards" which many people feel are just as "for sale" as the DVD's and website memberships themselves. If anything, being nominated for or winning some sort of award in the porn biz in the states is more of a press release opportunity than anything resembling prestige.
There is still a certain mystique that comes with AVN's. Don't get me wrong. It is more or less the Oscars of Porn. But fans are more sophisticated than they were 10 or 15 years ago, and they know that only big advertisers and schmoozers win.
All this said, I understand why models may not want to "party" with the average joe. However, being able to relate to fans face to face is important in the transition from model to legitimate Porn Star.

Re: Awards
The SHAFTAs were all voted for by the public. Anyone, not just TVX customers, could go to our website and vote in every single category. Those that won awards like Kerry Louise, Syren Sexton, Demetri XXX, Tanya Tate, Portway Films to name but a few were all chosen to win by their fans.

Re: Awards
Emma, from what I heard picking the nominees was incredibly tough and sadly not everyone could have been picked. We do plan to keep on having awards so there's always hope for next year.
