Can anyone vouch for the qualities of the new Canon XM2 ?
I've been shooting with an XM1 for a year or two with no complaints but it's starting to look a bit dog-eared and the XM2 looks mighty tempting.
The brief trial I had with it in the shop seemed OK, but not being able to take it outside (and not being able to find anywhere that'll hire one for a reasonable cost) means I'm relying on the views of others to see if it's any good at shooting naked women.
It'll cost me ?700.00 to trade in the XM1 so any advice gratefully received.
O/T Canon XM2
Re: O/T Canon XM2
I have an XM1 too.
Whats up with it? Dogeared? I dont think it matters what it looks like as long as it still does the job. The XM1 I have found to be superb and everything I need it to be. The XM2 does have the addition of analog in which is useful, but not enough to make me want to upgrade just yet. What's tempting you so mUch about the XM2?

Re: O/T Canon XM2
Should have asked them in the shop, spending that sort of Money!
"does it take a good close up of a decent fanny mate"

Re: O/T Canon XM2
It is easy to fall into the "techy" trap, but unless you have a specific need for a piece of equipment, then why spend money.
I've used a 3-chip hand-held Panasonic for yonks. It delivers 500 lines, manual, auto, stills etc. What else do I need unless for broadcast, which is a whole different ballgame
The appreciable difference to the naked eye (the viewer) is infinitessimal.
Spend the ?700 wisely in -for instance-distillery shares.

Re: O/T Canon XM2
You are right Marcus.
The electronics firls are always keen to get new models out and tempt us, because thats how they make their money. But in reality, one you have got something that does everything you need it to, why change? Unless you are a snob who has to have the latest model and can afford to spare the money.
I very much doubt the XM2 has any improvement at all in picture quality department. It probably uses most of the same circuitry as the XM1 with some added extras and a re-styled shell.
How much is the XM2 anyway? You will surely get ?700 for the XM1 as long as its in working order, and all complete.

Couldn't agree more (except for the last bit)
The XM1 is a far better piece of kit than most people need or,
indeed, will ever learn how to get the best out of.
Concentrate on what and how you film first and foremost.
If expensive,high-end equipment guaranteed a good product, you'd never see a lousy tv programme.
There are a lot of XM1's out there in porno land and they capture
an awful lot of poorly conceived,directed,scripted,acted....
....well,you get the point.
BTW Marcus, I've always been a little surprised you don't use at least 2 cameras to give you more editing options.

Re: O/T Canon XM2
Where could I get a 2nd hand XM1 and how much should I expect to pay?
Re: O/T Canon XM2
OK OK. I admit it - I'm a snob.
It was ?1350.00 a couple of weeks ago. From an a/v centre on the Soho Road in Brum.
But having checked their site it's been marked back up to ?1600.00, which isn't much less than they charge for the XL1S.
So there's no decision to be made anyway.
(And I was completely honest about what I wanted it for. The guy even claimed to know an asian friend of an asian friend who would be interested in being filmed. I won't hold my breath though).
Thanks anyway folks.

Re: O/T Canon XM2
Wow that would be good. I have contacts specialising in Asian porn, so if anyting does develop and you dont want her, or she needs more work, then put her in touch please.
Thats if she can lower herself to be shot by an XM1 after having your XM2 pointed at her. Just kidding haha.
Sell your XM1 to mutanthalibut why not?

Steven.
In my day job I work with the most achingly beautiful Bengali girl you will ever set eyes on. Age 22, huge dark eyes, silky-soft flawless skin, perfect size 8, works out five days a week etc.
Best I ever got was when she flashed her abs at me last year. She is FIT.
If I could persuade her to strip then we would be very rich men. Then again it's taken me twelve months to be able to talk to her without dribbling and staring at my feet.
