This goes out to anyone who may know really but I think Jim might be someone who knows.
I noticed in your documentary, Jim, that you are using a Canon XM1.
I am most used to using the Sony VX1000, but recently bought an XM1 for myself. My question is regarding colour bars. I used to record 30 seconds of colour bars at the start of each recording on the Sony to help with calibration of the editing computer to match the colours of shots taken on different cameras etc. I can't seem to see how to record colour bars on the Canon, as I dont have the instructions and dont know how to get them on.
Also, when setting manual white balance, the flashing symbol sometimes doesnt go solid, it just changes speed, although you can see that the white balance has been set. Whats that all about? On the VX1000 it always goes solid to indicate its been set.
I'd like to know about what external microphones you use, if any as well.
Lastly, is there a way to reset the timecode to zero before starting a recording on the Canon, and to set your User ID and Tape ID as with the Sony. I can't seem to find that out, not that its that important as the timecode should always be kept continuous on 1 tape anyway but it would be nice if I could do it. I dont have the Canon remote control so if thats required for that then I've had it really.
Cheers, and advice is very welcome.

Hi mate I only play with the Canon, it is mainly a prop and gets some cutaways, I use a DV500 JVC Broadcast, great camera.
I do have the instructions for the Canon I will look them out,
Jim.

You can't reset the timecode on (consumer) DV cameras, it starts with 00.00.00.00 with each new recording anyway, unless it's continuing on from a previously recorded shot on the tape (assuming no TC break).
Re: Answer THIS, Phil
Jim, one of the endouring memories for me on the documentary was seeing you scratting around on the beach with your metal detector. Now be truthful, have you EVER found anything apart from coke/beer cans and the odd guest-house key?? Mind you, you ARE a winner having the lovely Violet living with you!!
Re: Answer THIS, Phil
He's a Scotsman, does he need any other explanation as to why he was on the beach with his metal detector?
Re: Answer THIS, Phil
Careful Shaun, I had a post deleted because I made a funny remark about the Scots.
