O/T Kazaa

I've been to the kazaa site after a number of postings here, but a little confused - do i download straight from there or do I have to subscribe

Can anyone provide a clickable link either to the subscription page or the download page.

Also If I make a download and burn it on to CD-ROM via my pc - will it play in my DVD player connected to my TV ( Toshiba DVD SD-2109)

Kazaa is a program which connects you to other Kazaa users. You search via the client and can download the shared files stored in the "Shared Folder" of other Kazaa users.

Kazaa, as standard, includes various spyware programs to monitor what you are doing and sell the information to advertisers. Because of this I, and many others, use Kazaa Lite which has had these features removed but is still compatible with normal Kazaa users.



Your DVD player will probably play discs of the V-CD standard. Nero is a good utility for these sort of things but I do not know enough to offer any real advice. Sorry.

Just to let you know, I have a database of thousands of DVD players which have been tested with all sorts of recordable media.
The Toshiba SD-2109 will not play CD-R or CD-RW even if they are recorded in proper VCD format. It will only play original, bought VCDs that have been pressed by a proper machine rather than recorded with a CD writer.
It does however play DVD-R discs.

This is the letter an SD-2109 owner received back from Toshiba when asking what he could do.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you requested as follows:

As far as our we are aware the SD2109 is able to play the DVD-R discs ,it can not play the CD-R or CD-RW. There is not a firmware upgrade available to make it play the CD-R and CD- RW discs, but if your player will not play the DVD-R disc's then you will need to check the firmware version of your player.

Your firmware version should be 3.1 or above, you can check this by loading the DVD player up without a disc in, as so to get the welcome to Toshiba screen on the television. When this is on the screen press Zoom 606 on the remote control, then on the screen the firmware version will appear. If it is below 3.1 then you need to contact our customer services

my version was 2.1 so i contacted toshiba who are going to collect my machine have the firmware upgraded and return it back to me foc
i will then try it with a dvd-r and let you all know the outcome, hope this helps"

In other words, if it doesnt play DVD-R discs, they can make it play them for you. But as far as CDR and CDRW discs go, it will never be able to play them.

So get a new player, there piss cheap, or a second hand one.

But make sure it plays SVCD as well as VCD as many don't and most movies now come in that format.

i have downloaded movies via kazaa and burned them onto vcd using my cdrw with no problems - mpeg files can be burned directly but avi files need converting to mpeg - you just need to download some free vcd burning software

go to www.vcdhelp.com tells you everything you should need to know

as for playback on dvd players i was under the impression that as vcd's are mpeg1 and dvd's are mpeg2 all dvd players should play vcd's - my philips dvd player only played vcd's after i had put in a 'secret' code to enable vcd playback - best thing is to search the net for the right codes for your machine (or possibly vcdhelp.com)

I use Kazaa-Lite quite a bit, and have recently found a cracked version with a few very helpful extra's.
