UK Porn & Blu Ray

As Blu Ray have won the HD war with every one now accepting that the new HD format will be Blu Ray & the sales of Blu Ray players are starting to take off, the next route for UK producers will be to produce there content on Blu Ray discs

We are interested to know how many members of the BGAFD already have the capability to play Blue Ray discs via a Blue Ray player or PS3 & how many of you are intending to buy players in the near future.

What price do you think is a reasonable to pay for movies on Blu Ray disc bearing in mind the extra costs involved for the production company.

Pumpkin Media content will be available on Blu Ray disc's in the very near future so any feed back you can give us will be useful.

Price would be on a value for money basis. The average buyer doesn't appreciate production costs, only the price compared to what he can get the for via US internet sites or from 'Knock off Nigel'.

Porn is so disposable these days with so much being produced I doubt Blu Ray sales in porn are going to be worthwhile especially when you consider the origination of the master.

I could be well wrong but if I look at it as a customer I wouldnt be bothered unless it was cheap. Why should somoen pay a fiver more for the same thing. I have even bothered for mainstream films. I certainly wouldnt bother for porn which a lot of people seem to be happy getting straight off their pcs and the ardent collctors wouldnt really justify the costs.

Prove me wrong of course. Its not like I have all the answers.

I certainly wouldn't be interested in paying extra for Blu Ray. And I ain't going to spend shed loads of money on a player

Personally I think the 'general' (yeah a generalisation) UK girl's complextion won't look pretty or at all nice on hi-def, sometimes its what we don't see that makes it.

With the Advent of HD Upscaling lots will simply upscale standard dvd for the vast improvement that gets.

I am now fully shooting in Hi Def with the intention of when Blu Ray becomes the normal opening the back catalogue and some extended uncut releases (as I'm banking on more stuff getting past bbfc in 5 yrs times) on HD, will be possible.

We see people asking about the old loops, old target, old ben dover, old this/that the other all the time, so its a potential market just like the big hollywood studios. How much more NEW footage can their be from starwars ? how many times can they re-master it ?

I think where producers should be looking for high(er) def is on downloads, offer a 'PCHD' where by its done at better bit rates/res.

I was looking at some old Bang Bro's stuff and it was done at like 320x240 when the average monitor was prob 800x600 or less, most stuff is done at 640x480 or 16:9 Equiv for example now, which is all well and good for 1024x768 and just scrapes by on 1280x, but now the average screen res is more 1440x900 or 1920x1280, I think we need to take downloads up to 960x640 or 16:9 aspect equiv, rather than worry about an emerging technology that will take a year or two before its cost effective for most house holds to have one.

Anyway, I tend to agree - for now. Where blu-ray will pay off is when lots of people have big screens - say 40" plus... at that size, the action gets blurred, below that size regular-def gives good enough quality.

Porn is cheap to get hold of but as customers get bigger Plasma/LCD/OLED
TV's the quality needs to be getting better, i always flick to HD sky rather than normal sky because the quality is much better & there will be loads who would buy Blu-ray because of this. As for the costs prices are dropping all the time so would if be profitable? maybe when the mass of the nation have 720p-1080p as standard. We have loads of our old VCD discs that just stopped selling once DVD took hold so will it be the same again.
Pumpkim Media have made a good name for themselves as a high end production company in the UK so releasing Blu-ray films to some of your customers should work in theory even though the price is that bit higher.
