Hello I have done still do.
Allways go for a smoking room, as I understand flash can somtimes trigger the smoke detectors
Check in together both dressing conservativly
If you intend to use the location again stay the night and check out in the morning looks more normal

Book a hotel that's large enough for you to pass unnoticed past the reception desk, if you are meeting and bringing the performer(s) up later.

Remove any noticable branded room service menu's / stationary that may appear in shot.

Book a smoking room to avoid being shouted at during the shoot ;)

All my shoots have been in hotels and have had no bad experiences whatsoever. Almost enjoy telling the receptionist that there's "been a change of plan" when they query my leaving so shortly after checking in...most usually don't bat an eyelid though.

It's quite fun working out how the lights will work in the different environments as well - from big high ceilings to small pokie rooms - it's all good.

If shooting for magazine publication, bear in mind that some publishers demand a 'location release' form for the property.

All kinds of things go on in hotel rooms besides shooting a bit of porn.. Rock stars chuck furniture out of them, drug deals, arms deals, murders.

Actually staying in them seems to be incidental these days.

I think the best rule is to be discrete on the old sex noises.

Don't forget some chains' decor is part of their brand. For those of us in the know it's quite easy to identify the chain from the decor and furnishings.

Remember many hotels are no-smoking nowadays.

Also, it is technically illegal to smoke during the shoot- it is a workplace, and is covered by the smoking ban- UNLESS its part of the shoot and for artisitic reasons.

As for leaving early, avod reception- not an issue! Many hotels just have a drop box for the key nowadays, and moreover they don't care what you are using the room for.

And don't forget that anything which is published could leave you open to be sued by the company for "any damage to their reputation", caused by your actions.

I don't know many hotels that provide professional studio flash, coloramas, chaise longues, props, stools, kitchens, parking right outside and they make you tea and coffee for your stay....for less than the cost of the studio for a couple of hours.

I guess it depends on what you're shooting, if you want the amateur look (and many people do) then hotels are better for that sort of thing.

If you want professional results, go to a professional.
