I agree. Notepad and Photoshop is all you need....!wink! unfortunately, you'll also need a knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP not to mention a basic understanding of server directory and file structure etc. etc...

Hi Ric

Dreamweaver 8 is a great peice of software, if you don't know anything about websites you can just type text, insert pictures or plugins like wmv movies, in the design mode. It's realy easy to use.

If you want something really basic and very easy to use there is always Frontpage but Dreamweaver is a bit better.

Look at iWeb i think its called, it comes with mac software.

Dreamweaver is a little more involved.

Try NetObjects Fusion if you want an easy one.

I like my syntax highlighting too much to go back to notepad.

Nvu is cool too.

On my *nix boxes I use Vim or other Vi varient, which should work on your mac.

Glutton for punishment some of you are :)

Dreamweaver does my highlighting for Javascript, PHP, Perl and HTML and i generally use 3 of them at any given time.

I'd look at Content Management Systems (CMS)

Do some Googling - Joomla for example.

Once you have set up the site structure, adding new content becomes simple.

You don't need to know as much HTML, CSS etc as with tools like Dreamweaver, but you will need some knowledge of these areas.

If you don't want to learn HTML/CSS etc, ask a designer to build your site using a CMS so you can then handle all updates and only them for redesigns.

FrontPage was discontinued late 2006. The last release was FrontPage 2003.

It has been replaced by the Expression family of products.

Expression Web is the direct replacement of FrontPage

Microsoft hope to compete with Dreamweaver with this suite of products.
