certs

Post by Josephine »

hi
is it just me or is anyone else worried about the current hiv certs? it is talking my local g.u clinc 2 weeks to get the results back but when i queried that some certs in the industry are back within a day they have told me its impossible,it s not for basic hiv its for the smears and swaps we have to have as Gonohorrea takes 5days to culture in the lab so anything with a cert saying that they are clear and its been done quicker is just a laugh and putting the rest of us at risk. This does mean that my cert is only valid for 2 weeks before it runs out,but as im doing veterinary science which involves lab work and preparing cultures i at least know what goes on behind the scenes of the lab clinc.
has anybody got any thoughts on all of this bearing in mind we are only certified free of all these stds at the time of testing , it does not mean we are ok when we are on shoot as we could have picked up something in the meantime. so really a lot is down to trust in this business.

A lot has been posted about the validility of certs on these forums but they are still the best protection against STDs in the adult film industry other than condoms which would be the end of the British Porn Industry, yes there are always risk, there is a risk crossing the road or changing a lightbulb, as far as i am aware there have been no cases of HIV within the adult film industry in the UK amongst those of us who insist on certs allthough other STDs have occurred the other ones being treatable, then insist on only working with people who have genuine certs? and minimise the risk.

Charing Cross is running slow due to staff shortages (5 down, with a no hire policy due to shortage of money. So the nurse told me when I was there last week.).

So currently 7 WORKING days in lab, then postal time. (Instead of letter in the post 1 week later).

The nurse told me that the longer tests actually take up to 2-3 days to culture. (HIV is avail within a few mins, so you always get that cert there and then). Which would explain why private clinics can turn round faster.

I still love performing and shooting, and always happy to help people make porn. Esp if tittivation.com will be an outlet :-)

Go to the clinic in harley street they are well set up for us now, and all the certs are stamped, and embossed.

They offer an excellent service.

Understand it all depends if the laboratory where the samples are sent use the latest technology to analyse the samples.

There is that delay with the samples being sent away.

Medi-Lab where i go in Manchester test all their samples in-house and i understand they have the latest equipment to do this.

If i go on a Monday afternoon, i get the certificates through the post by the Thursday.

You don't have to wait as long as the NHS says Josephine. You just need to know what kind of test the talent has.

For HIV and Syphilis, using antibody screening should give results in a few minutes! As for diseases affecting the urethra like gonorrhea & chlamydia they usually use different types of tests which I've gone into below.......

While it's true that 'culture' testing takes around 5 days to give accurate results, at medi-lab they use the 'Gen-Probe APTIMA Combo 2 Target Amplification Nucleic Acid Probe Test' which is quicker, more sensitive, and specific.

Here's some information for everyone who's interested:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Use:
The APTIMA COMBO 2 Assay is a second generation nucleic acid amplification test that uses target capture for in vitro qualitative detection and differentiation of rRNA from CT and GC. The assay uses a family of Gen-Probe's proven technologies including target capture (TC), Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA) and Dual Kinetic Assay (DKA). This is the same family of technologies used to screen the nation's blood supply.

Features/Benefits:

* This second generation test was developed to address the limitations of first generation amplified tests. The APTIMA COMBO 2 Assay virtually eliminates inhibition problems and cross-reactivity, offers multiplex detection and differentiation and also improves workflow and throughput.
* The testing solution is cost-effective by providing two results from one sample and also increases laboratory efficiency with single tube testing.
* Use of the assay provides clinicians and laboratorians with the appropriate tools to be able to significantly reduce the prevalence and incidence of CT and GC infections in sexually active individuals as well as prevent their serious and costly seqeulae.
* The sensitivity of Gen-Probe's test has been shown to be superior to culture and direct specimen tests. The greater sensitivity of the test permits the use of specimens other than endocervical swabs for women and urethral swabs for men. It is the only assay with urine specimen sensitivity equivalent to swab specimen. Additionally, excellent sensitivity and specificity has been demonstrated with ThinPrep liquid Pap specimens in the APTIMA COMBO 2 Assay.

----- Sensitivity---- Specificity
CT -----95.9% ----------- 98.2%
GC -----97.8% ----------- 98.9%
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this helps..........
