A friend has asked me to reccommend a web designer

He's after a paysite.

I put him in a touch with one guy but he quoted ?500 which I think is above the average rate.

Are you a web designer or can you reccommend one? Mail me on kazzy79@yahoo.co.uk with a quote for a paysite with galleries/freeview and a shop etc (any links to sites you've built would be appreciated too)

I'm sure you posted once that you'd been in the biz. If so, you don't know much. One of the US based credit card processors offers a shopping cart for a shop as part of their package, free of charge !!! You design the shop and just add the links you need

If anybody will design you a site, do galleries and intergrate a shop for under ?500 it will be shit. I'm sorry but it will, if you want amateur night with bolt on shops then whatever, you get what you pay for.

You're point about the "package" from processors. You fail to mention that it is an add-on, you've gotta pay to be verified in the first place.

The OP asked for freeview, galleries and a shop and thought ?500 was alot. The designer you recommend(which I would too btw) has this as their basic package(the only package anywhere near ?500):

• header with logo
• footer
• episode box template

read = 1 page for $899

does not meet the OPs requirements at all. I have nothing against webinc, I like them alot. Just simply pointing out that if you want work of this standard you have to pay for it. If you want work of this standard for under ?500, then you get less than 1 page, editing supplied by yourself.

I always say my designs are crap and have done since 1999 when I started building them.. But I have the content so they sell..

The cart provided by costs no extra... So where is there an add on cost

Most designers will always work out a deal today, so I'm sure that Sarah would do something

Excuse my ignorance - paysites are not my area of expertise - hence asking for advice. My friend lives in Aberdeen and doesn't know where to start!

In the past when I've asked people what they paid for their sites and they have always said ?300 or so which is why this seemed higher than prices I've heard suggested in the past.

In reference to Joe's site - not all sites have to be top notch perfect, in fact from what I've seen there is also a huge amateur market. And as he says - they are very successful - so they fulfill their function it seems.

Of course I'm sure my friend wants a good quality site but it doesn't hurt to shop around - ironically the designer mentioned he would be flexible in the price......

you're just full of it. I don't think I've ever stepped out of line, I say good things sometimes, sometimes I say bad things(like alot of people). You pick out the bad ones, ignore any good ones. You want everyone to get along and say nothing but nice things about each other all day long. Like one big circle jerk.

When a webmaster posts there site on here for people to join. I have the right to ask questions and criticise, you seem to disagree, as per the britpornxxx thread.

The thread about excessive dirty talking, someone took offence to that. Funnily enough in the original post I said I was impressed by the movie. Weird that? Prices vary so much....the price will depend on how many pages are wanted...how many pics or clips are going up to start the site..also if the pics and or clips need to be got ready for the net...and so on....

I saw a members site that was built for ?200...its was shit...the same site was redone by a friend of mine at a cost of ?450 and the guy was over the moon with it...so cheapest is not always the best...
