I've read various discussions over the past few years that say everything will be heading online
Namely towards webcam shows because its one of the few distribution the pirates cant really abuse given watching a replay is never the same as live interaction.
Is this type of porn really the future or just the slippery slope to amateurism?

Future of Porn
Re: Future of Porn
Watching a superannuated starlet via a grotty webcam ain't my idea of fun.
As to the future, who knows? VR-enhanced real-time interaction?
Dunno, don't much care. For me, where it's been is more important than where
it's going- there's more than enough material still out there to see me to my
[doubtless unmarked, and likely desecrated] grave.
And in 30 years the Resource Wars will have started, and having a hand-shandy
will be the least of our concerns as the planet goes into [literal and metaphorical]
meltdown.
Happy New Year : -)

Re: Future of Porn
They say CD and DVD are dead and the future of blu-ray is uncertain.
3D is not really working for mainstream cinema nor for porn, yet a lotof movies are being released in 3D in movie theaters, but few people own a 3D player or TV monitor. 3D is just an excuse for Hollywood to gouge audiences for a few extra bucks. Movie cinema releases are still being done through 35m prints just as it has been for over the last 100 years.
Standard film photography has disappeared and everything is digital. Trying to get a movie or film album of your wedding from a professional photographer/videographer is even longer than it was 10-20 years ago. So what has improved?
People tell me that they now keep their porn in their computers and external drives. Still how much can you keep in those hard drives and how many do you need when you have 3,000 full-length porn titles? When you have mainstream movies that require several languages for audia and subtgitles, how do you store them and how do you play themon a hard drive?
Porn seems to be going via internet, although not too many are willing to shell out over $30 per month to see some particular scenes with a favorite performer. Some have DRM features and automatic re-billing which is a problem.
How popular are cam shows? Don't know, no one has real figures. The qualityis crappy and seeing a girl staring at a screen for long minutes reading someone's message that tells her take off your top, probably is not that much fun.
There are no more video stores around, and they don't order porn titles any more. What you find onthe shelves is old stuff.
Have no clue where porn is going. Either way, DVD or internet is expensive, overpriced and neither the mainstream or porn producers really priced it well (after they made bundles with high-priced VHS tapes in the old days). There is so much free porn (on tube sites) even if it is of bad/average quality that nobody really cares. It is excites and titilates you for a few minutes or helps you get you off, the average porn consumer seems to be happy wioth that.
The other puzzling question I ask myself is what will happen to databases such as IAFD and EGAFD/BGAFD, if more and more scenes are shot for web sites, and DVD title productions just decrease and practically disappear altogether? Will there be a EGAFD/IAFD in 2-5 years?

Re: Future of Porn
Hard to disagree given i started looking backwards around 2005 with regards to unseen material because scene 1 with producer performer A looked like scene 101 with producer performer Z
Still there is always some new startlets like
Mandy Dee

that come around every now and then that are worth a watch or 2 though I find the soft vids minus the fake moaning and contrived chemistry more appealing.
Many of the Euros remind me of live performers in sex clubs
The body & the vocals are so obviously disconnected its not even worth watching.
I wont ever make the mistake of watching a Stracy Stone aka Bijou
solo,bg or gg hard scene ever again.
Their almost as bad as the lamentable as some of the British softcore brigade who tried to go hard - TM being easily the worst.
I figure 2013 same as 2012
Time to seek out the obscure & unseen
Nice work if you can get it

Re: Future of Porn
Its curious that CDs & Dvds I bought back in the 80s are still OK today
Yet downloaded material less than 5 years old stored on disc has become corrupted on numerous occasions
You go around the net hard drives & external have a shelf life of about 5 years.
Says to me the whole online VOD platform isnt really economical for the consumer if their looking to collect.By the time you've forked out for a high quality disc to store it on you might as well have bought the DVD direct.
With that in mind I'd think databases will be around for a bit longer
Theres a definitely a trust issue involved as well
Take them away and were back to the dark ages of pre-internet
We've already seen how dubious some of the VOD sites are with the same scene listed multiple times under different titles
I think the biggest danger with porn and its future is burn out of the end users
One site i've been a free member of via an email addy sign-up for at least a decade gives you access to a HD dvd paysite with
Scenes: 44640
DVDs: 11983
Pornstars: 10048
HD (480-720P) scenes which are all downloadable.
They limit the number you can download but even so thats enough for anyone except the content is your base typical gonzo - watched back to back would make you jaded & cynical in no time at all.

Re: Future of Porn
I don't trust PC or hard drives. PCs crash from time to time and information is lost.
DVD's of early 2000's are still playing fine. CD's even more so.
I have no idea what the shelf life is for DVD/CD, but I bet you it is longer than a hard drive. A DVD can be read by any PC and DVD player. A video file can be in any crazy format (avi, mpg, mkv, flv, and you require all kinds of gadgets and software to read them or convert them.
Blu ray for the most part is a joke, that is not worth the extra money. HD is pretty much acceptable on a standard DVD. I don't need to clearly see extra pimples on a girl's ass (or a guy's ass for that matter) for that extra "porn" experience.
Porn DVDs are overpriced and I see no reason for distributor to add that "bonus" scene on a DVD which is essentially a scene taken from another movie (which you may or may not have seen already). I don't consder that an "extra"bonus that you're getting.
Trying to get legit porn from satellite/cable is way too expensive (and often you are getting a "vanilla" content, and you don't even know whether it may even somewhat censored/toned down). Scene(s) download from the web is also very expensive and it costs just as much downloading a whole movie than to actually own the DVD. In addition you are using internet connection to do so, and your IP provider bills you according to monthly usage. The more you download, the more you pay your IP provider.

Re: Future of Porn
I suppose if your a serious collector your going to buy from the original source
if you can rather than wasting time hunting down a quality version online
via cyberlockers , news groups or torrents - which really require using a paid VPN unless you want your day in court.
Just a look through search engines like files tube shows online is like space - dead junk littered everywhere
Dont know about ISPs and bandwidth usage being an issue
I have 100GB a month which i dont come close to using and thats watching HD streaming (480-720)and downloading a lot of film clips & TV
From what i read in the US of A a couple of companies tried introducing limits and got a massive backlash and have never tried to reign in the unlimited access ever since
Their only attempt since is tracking those who consume like dogs on heat 24/7 and sending out warning notices of illegal activity due to consumption.
The storage issue is the achilles heel of online collecting for free
as well as buying from VODs
Its like buying software online without a hard copy disc backup
- lose that download & key and its useless
I'd imagine quite a few computer crashes / corrupt discs result in many
scenes being bought over and over.
The request the section on quite a few forums seems to always have its fair share of lost my entire collection - i'm after

Re: Future of Porn
Well Deuce internet usage was indeed an issue in North America in 2012, and Netflix has a lot to do with that situation.
According this Oct, 2012 article
http://gigaom.com/2012/10/01/data-caps-chart/
...64 percent of broadband subscribers in the U.S. have a cap on their usage
So much for massive backlash.
Why Netflix? Rather obvious: it is competiting with ISP's. Netflix is converting more and more subscribers to simple movie internet download rather than the old DVD rental through the mail. That eats a lot of broadband and ISP's are no longer willing to provide UNLIMITED downloads and have set caps. Unfortunately federal regulators in the USA and Canada have allowed the ISP's to do that while holding consumers and internet subscribers hostage. And we are just talking about mainstream movies and TV shows/series which Netflix supplies.
It makes little sense for federal governments in the US and Canada to make it appear that consumers are well served and well educated by having certain access to the internet, but that "usage" is now tracked and capped.
Capped we understand although the genberal public chafes under such authorotitarian conditions, but since this past summer there have been some insidious arrangements between the enterainment industry and ISP's in that every counsumer's internet use is now tracked and if a copyright owner has detected that a certain user has been downloading supposedly copyrighted material, they have forced the ISP to notify the user to stop doing that or face certain consequences, like slowing down his internet connection, and even disconnecting the internet line. In other words you are gullty until proven innocent.
VOD is no better than the present situation of media consumer product. If you had the film on VHS, you have to rebuy it again on DVD. If you had it on DVD but wish to see on blu-ray, now you have to buy it again. If you bought a mainstream movie on DVD this week, but in a few weeks comes along an extended edition with 3 additional minutes you haveto buy it again. Next year when the 10th anniversary edition of the DVD comes out with 23 minutes of the "making of" they want you you to buy it again. No sooner was DVD out and people started to convert from VHS, they announced blu-ray. So the picture is a little bit bigger and it has morer GB space, who really cares if the movie only lasts 93 minutes?
A porn movie on satellite/cable is wildly expensive. You are getting a bland product and quite likely with some scenes cut out (could be an anal, could be a DP, could be a squirting scene, could a cum shot, you never know for sure, unless you have made some careful comparison with an original uncut version). On VOD on the internet especially a relatively new movie is also very expensive is comes close to actually buying the DVD.

Re: Future of Porn
I'm going sick of today's porn not because of girls but because of male performers. They fuck too rude and fast and are busy showing "gapes" most of the times. Shitloads of movies look the same and they are very boring IMHO.
Re: Future of Porn
I always burn 'keepers' and reference-material to disc..... and after having
sometimes found long-stored DVDs to have deteriorated [despite manufacturers'
claims of indestructibility] I now also do a back-up. Alec has also mentioned
this as a problem with his collection.
