It was announced today that the Labour peer Lord Janner will now not face any charges of child sex abuse due to his poor health. He has effectively been let off, something which is clearly appalling. This from Wikipedia:
STARTS
"Child sexual abuse allegations:
In 1991, the director of a children's home in Leicestershire, Frank Beck, was convicted of child abuse and sentenced to five life terms. During the trial, Beck accused Janner of having abused a child. A 30-year-old man also accused Janner of abusing him when he was in care aged 13. Janner was not prosecuted, and received cross-party support in the House of Commons. He said there was "not a shred of truth" in the claims against him. The Times reported in September 2014 that Mike Creedon, currently the Chief Constable of Derbyshire Constabulary, claimed that in 1989 whilst he was serving as a Detective Sergeant, senior police chiefs blocked a paedophile probe into Janner, despite 'credible evidence' that warranted further investigation.
In 2013 and early 2014, Leicestershire Police searched Janner's home in north London, and his offices in the House of Lords in connection with an enquiry linked to historical child abuse allegations. A file of evidence against Janner has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, but he has not been interviewed or arrested.
On the 16th of April 2015, the Crown Prosecution Service released a statement saying that they would not charge Janner due to his poor health."

If he's genuinely too ill, then fine. If he's 'Earnest Saunders/Ronnie Biggs/Lockerbie bomber' ill though.........
We have need of you again, great king.

I would imagine he's ill in that sense, in other words 'putting it on' to some extent. Apparently Lord Janner has children, he's Jewish and one of them is a Rabbi. I wonder what they think of what he's been accused of.

Max
I'm not sure what the legal position is, Max but as far as I am aware no charges have been brought against Lord Janner and that decision has been made in the light of his dementia.
Maybe if it is subsequently proved that the dementia is self induced then the CPS could still bring a prosecution against him on the grounds that the original decision not to go to court was based on an incorrect premise

Friends, there is such a thing as the British Establishment - and this is a
perfect example of the Establishment closing ranks.
Re: Max
This whole carry on sucks and the public know it, noted after todays CPS statement that commenting is disabled at many news sites and the police are questioning the CPS's ruling. All this only adds to the problematic view that something isn't right here!
And as for Alzheimer's disease being incurable, well that's not true is it.
"Ernest Walter Saunders is a former British business manager, best known as one of the "Guinness Four", a group of businessmen who attempted fraudulently to manipulate the share price of the Guinness company. He was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, but released after 10 months as he was believed to be suffering from Alzheimer's disease, which is incurable. He subsequently made a full recovery."

Re: Max
Back in 1999, the BBC reported on the discovery that Konrad Kalejs, an alleged Nazi war criminal, was living in a nursing home in Leicestershire:
?Former Labour MP Lord Janner, chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said he would ask Home Secretary Jack Straw to investigate the allegations against Mr Kalejs. And he said that if there was sufficient evidence, Mr Kalejs should be prosecuted under war crimes legislation. If there was not enough evidence for a prosecution, the government should follow the example of the United States and Canada and deport him, he said. ?They only do that if they are sufficiently satisfied that a person is guilty of war crimes. They don?t want him in their country. If that is correct, we don?t want him in our country either,? Lord Janner told BBC Radio 4?s Today programme.?
So Janner says you can prosecute or deport elderly wrong ?uns, but not investigate the claims of his paedophilia because his memory is a bit hazy?
