Danny Dyer to join Eastenders...

Eastend hardman Danny Dyer, he of some great British movies and some not so good ones too, is going to become the landlord of the Queen Vic on Eastenders. His missus is going to be played by the actress Kellie Bright who I've seen in a few things. This is clearly an attempt by the producers to increase ratings as the show has been on the slide for ages and is now Britain's third soap. I remember when it was the most watched programme in Britain, was brilliant too, and I was a huge fan. Now I don't even watch it - I, like millions and millions of others, have jumped ship as the show has been crap for ages.

I suspect the writers will blow the great potential this has, they will probably give him poor uninteresting storylines that are just designed to fill up air-time: things like him and his missus not getting along, he has an affair, they get back together, someone on the Square has a kid - is it his? - him and his missus then get on fine for a while, then argue and nearly break up, then are fine again, then do break up - and all this sort of nonsense. That is how the writers on the show write the characters these days, screen filler as they have nothing really to write about anymore. The show would be better if it went back to two nights a week like it used to be years ago - at least then they didn't seem pushed to come up with stories.

Do people think Danny Dyer will be a good asset to Eastenders? I think he could be but I fear the writers will get it all wrong like I've just outlined, and squander what could have been a great opportunity for the show.

I wonder what type of character Danny "No easternders till I'm 50" Dire will play? Maybe an intellectual Geordie? Or a blunt talking scouser? Maybe he'll be the gay LibDem candidate, or perhaps a lovable cockney rogue. I wonder where the smart money is in that?

I would cast him against type...I'd give him a challenge playing a former gay porn star who was only gay for pay and running from his past until a local spots him and it all comes out (oo-er)

A good chance to chuck some porn business stuff, highlight the challenges gay people go through and questions whether gay for pay is actually just gay for pay

I think the best thing that could happen to Eastenders is to fuck off from the schedule along with all the other mind numbing shite.

There are some members of society that know more about soap operas that what is going on in real life. I would imagine some can't tell the difference.

The make-up artist I use freelances for Granada TV and often works on Corrie. She tells me every time a house goes up for sale on the street, the office is swamped with people wanting to buy it!
