Overrated Ponce retires from football

Post by Arginald Valleywater »

The gay icon and almost full time clothes horse and boxer short salesman has finally "retired". Good. Not half the player Gazza was, or Lampard.

Joey Deacon had more talent in his feet than Beckham has brains.

David Beckham was a great player, you do not win what he won or play for who he played for unless you are seriously good.

In my book there are two main reason people wrongly under rate him and hate him:

Firstly it is due to his failure to lead England to any significant victories in tournaments with the talent he had around him. Personally I blame that on the manager not one of eleven players.

Secondly Britain hates a success story and David Beckham is a success story. Over 100 caps for his country, numerous trophies at club level with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, more money than he could ever need and married to a beautiful ex pop star turn fashion icon.

I'm no football pundit but these clubs he played for didn't appear to win any more or loose any less than they did with him or after him.

But they they missed those dress up costumes sales though.

A bit harsh. Everyone has their own opinions though.

He was a good player in his day, but his day was pre 2004. As much as I despise his profile I would have made him player of the year in 1999, not Ginola (I think he won it).
He was a 70 cap player at best. He would of not won 115 caps if he looked like Ian Dowie.

I think Gerrard and Scholes were better than Beckham to name but a few. As for lampard, it's hard to say if he is better than Becks or not, what I will say is he's (Lampard) had a better career in terms of playing at the highest level.

I also used to get fed up always hearing how good he was at taking free kicks and crosses. Yes he was good, and so is Gerrard, but he doesn't get the acclaim that Becks gets. What about the 3 important penalties that Becks missed in a row for England (Turkey - Euro 2004 play off, France & Portugal Euro 2004)
