1 in 12 gay people in London have HIV...

Post by max_tranmere »

I saw this on the London news today, that 1 in 12 gay people in London are infected with HIV. I haven't done the maths but that is something like 8 in every 100. It is a hell of a lot of people. I remember back in the 1980's when the fear of an AIDS epidemic began there was a lot in the media about 'safe sex' and all that. I thought people headed it. There has, thankfully, not been an epidemic in society but I'm shocked to hear it's as high as 1 in 12 for gay people having HIV. I don't know any gay people but I feel sorry for them if HIV is as rife as this in their community.

It's the levels amongst the African community we have to worry about.

Very true, and they are culturally against any form of contraception which massively increases the chance of infection.

I don't think that anyone here has said that have they?

But like it or not, studies have proven a link between rising HIV rates in the UK and African immigrants. Even though it may not be "politically correct" to say so.

No Flat Eric he didnt but it seems all the posts are stuck on that ethnic aspect of it like a broken record that one could assume what I said has some validity

Well allow me this....Most peados in the press happen to be white...But I didnt say they were right? What would you make of that comment? True? false? Unsubstantiated?

Anyone reading these posts would think it was ok to avoid sex with someone from the african community to be in the clear

One dumb comment deserves another I guess

Does this include the irish as well then? idiots on a night out on the town getting pissed up and having a bunk up in the bogs on a Friday night are culturally against contraception too I've heard

Given that studies and stats back it up, it does have some validity.

Aside from the Asian grooming gangs, most of them do appear to be white. No doubt there are other paedos "of colour" also, but it seems like a fairly reasonable observation to me.

Perhaps, and that would be reckless of them. But statistically your odds of infection ARE probably shorter if you have unprotected sex with someone from the African community, given that the infection rates in the general populations of many sub-saharan African countries eclipse those in the general population over here.

I don't see why acknowledging that should be a problem. More like common sense.

Nicely deflected Flat Eric but what has colour or ethnicity got to do with a problem that is global and therefore broader than the african community?

The posts so far seems to side skirt the isse and focus on the african community when i suspect none of the posters here have anything to do with the african community so therefore you are implying its not your problem is it?

Unless someone you know gets it and brings it home to you that is. You see how this can be a problem regardless of race, geneder and sexual orientation now?

So, again, what has ethnicity got to do with this issue?

Who's deflecting?

No-one has said it's not a global problem. No one has said that only gays can get it. No one has said that only people of a certain ethnic background can get it.

But that doesn't alter the fact that in the UK, African immigrants have contributed to the rise in the number of HIV cases.

Why are you uncomfortable with that? Is it because it's not politically correct to admit it?

You're claiming that things have been said that haven't been said. Or even implied. Certainly not by me anyway.
