Top Gun..

Post by max_tranmere »

Just watched this on Film 4, I've seen it many times but this is the first time I've watched it for a few years. I remember one critic years ago described it as contrived beyond belief. Another referred to it as having some of the most quoted dialogue in cinema history. All round, a great film.

'Your ego's writin' cheques your body can't cash!' - I haven't seen it in years either, but I always remember that line.

Another highly quotable movie from around this time was Big Trouble in Little China, as I remember.

Arginald, you are still dangerous, but you can be my wingman any time.

I first saw it in 1986 at a cinema in Stuttgart (and dubbed into German) with a German bird whose knickers I was trying to get into at the time.

Complete load of old bollocks really, but I suppose mildly entertaining in places.

And sadly, the cinema ticket and a jumbo popcorn never did get me that shag.

Surely if it was going to be an accurate portrait of US military jet pilots it should have shown them attacking British ground troops in friendly fire incidents.

It's the gayest flm ever made, I think it's no coincidence that Kelly McGillis turned gay after being in it.
