which business bank is adult friendly ?

Post by Reventon »

Who can you do business banking with if your business is in the adult industry ?

the ones I've spoken to have rejected my applications because of their reputational risk policy.

I'm trying to start a sex-toy manufacturing business but have been told no one will lend to me because of the industry (lending to weapons manufactures is ok though!)

I was thinking about starting a 'massage device' business to start with and then expanding into the adult sector.

thanks

Reputational risk policy? It would be difficult to imagine a business sector that has a worse reputation than the banking sector so I suspect the reason that you have been given is one of the many they trot out because they are not prepared to take virtually any risk whatsoever. If you had a business up and running with a solid cashflow over previous years and sales lined up for coming months, possibly. If you are just starting up, then you are likely to struggle whatever you do.

The reason banks are now so risk averse is because they have to raise their capital to loan ratios and the way they are doing that is by:

1. Ripping off whoever they give money to by having the biggest gap between bank rate and loan rate to Jo Public seen for many a year.
2. Demanding huge deposits from first time house buyers.
3. Avoiding lending money to small businesses unless you look like a Bill Gates in the making.

Maybe I am just being cynical but.....

Osborne launced the concept of enterprise zones today. Depending on where you live, you may find these measures which I think kick in from April may possibly provide some help

None of the banks are adult friendly

Ive been trading under my business name for years until my bank called me in for a perosnal chat then asked thenature of my businmess beyond "video producer" to wihich he gasped and spluttered in his coffee and said if we had known that we would have never given you a bank account.

I'm still with them and they see i run my business legitimately. I pay my taxes and quick to give me a loan. Just be creative with the truth

I am a video producer. I didnt specify I shot porn

I bet the weapons companies Cameron took on his hugely misjudged 'buy our arms whilst your people revolt against their dictators' tour of the middle east the other week dont have any trouble with their banks, or the government or police over their products. I'd like to see him lead a delegation of British porn producers round Europe. Fewer people would die as a result of any sales from that trip I bet.

As for the Enterprise Zones DJ mentions, I doubt if any proposals there may be to help business by removing red-tape will involve anything to help the porn industry.

No but it might leave a trail of men drooling and lying in a coma from all that wanking.

Didint you know that porn is the biggest threat to our mental health since, oh the banks crashing and people losing their money, being potless and struggling to pay the bills and mortgages.

Because porn really is high on everyones issue.

A mate of mine said it best: Whats all this debate about porn? I feel horny. I put on a dvd and 10 minutes later I'm done and go about my business for the day. Whats to debate about that?

You know what? He may be right

I havent read the details closely but I did recall the word "loans" being used which may possibly be of interest to Reventon given it is the area he is struggling with.

Creative is exactly right.
Im an online marketing specialist.
Which is the truth.

Just use the right combinations of words out of everything you do, and you'll be okay.

As for which bank?
Barclays - hrmph (long story)
Yorkshire - 2x hrmph (even longer!)
Natwest - TOP so far!!!

Thanks for some very useful advice, don't know why I didn't think to be more creative in the first place, too honest and naive..

I've decided to pursue one of my other ideas that has a low start-up cost and hopefully make enough profit from that to fund my other business as I think the chances of someone giving me ?50k at the moment are probably quite slim.

cheers
