Manic Street Preachers tonight at Brixton...

Post by max_tranmere »

I'm going, and I can't wait.

I have always been intrigued by the disappearance of their lead guitarist Richie Edwards. It is one of the music world's genuine mysteries and people are still wondering where he is, 16 years after he vanished. He walked out of a hotel in west London in 1995 and no one has heard from him since. His car was found at a well known suicide spot in the west country soon after but other than that - nothing. His family puts out appeals a few times a year but no one knows anything to this day. Is anyone else on here a fan of the Manics?

I've always thought that one day the band will be doing a gig somewhere and he will climb out of the crowd and say "I'm back!". To say the band would be stunned after all these years is an understatement. Who knows, it could even happen tonight at Brixton Academy...

Don't hold your breath. He is almost certainly dead.

Gold against the soul is one of the greatest rock albums of my generation. Every thing they have done since has been over political shite. With the exception of Holy Bible....which is just shite.

Don't get too excited about seeing them live either.

BeestonBoy,

Great gig tonight. James Dean Bradfield is a brilliant live guitarist - very impressive - and Nicky Wire has an incredible stage presence (great bassist too). The drummer Sean Moore was lost behind his huge kit. He was hardly visible, regardless of where you were in the crowd. James mentioned Richie several times which was quite touching, and said goodnight from him at the end. I'm glad I went and will certainly be keen to see them again.

pornoshop,

Sadly no Richie tonight. Some people claim to have seen him abroad, the last time I heard of this was some guy in Ibiza who claimed to have chatted to him in a bar a few years ago. Although it would seem, sadly, that he is no longer alive and the 'sightings' are rather like those of Lord Lucan.

He is actually playing up front for Liverpool this season so remains invisible.
The Manics are a bit of an enigma, masterpieces and utter dross sit side by side on their albums. Great live BTW.

Hey Max

Glad you had a great night.

Sorry if I sounded like a bit of a cunt before. Just always felt some what cheated by the Manics after the first two albums, and for some strange reason thought your post was the perfect place to vent spleen.

JDB has one of the greatest voices in rock and is one fucking awesome guitarist. Although I disagree with his choice of guitars!!

Again,sorry to be a cunt.
