Waste of public money

Anyone care to speculate how much public money has been wasted in terms of this guy's covert operation, preparing a prosecution, defendant's legal aid, barrister's fees etc ?

To say nothing of the potential miscarriages of justice arising from probable agent provocateur actions by 'Mark Stone' and others acting on the edge of legality.

Doesn't it seem highly forseeable ? I'm assuming CPS lawyers know about the legal process ? If they take a broad view of the case while they're preparing it and ask themselves 'What are its weaknesses?' and put themselves in the defence team's shoes then shouldn't the CPS have made the decision not to proceed ?

It's wisdom after the fact, but isn't the flaw in the case obvious ?
