I wonder how well this would be contained under our present "hodge podge" of NHS versus private clinics?

Hi Terry i wondered when this would be mentioned and of course you are correct but lets hope that it can be contained over in the U.S. if not then it could have implications over here with a lot of performers now working internationally, and here in the UK it would be down to individiual performers/producers to decide wether or not they shut down but lets hope its nipped in the bud !sad!

There is no control out there Graham. I can guarantee people will still shoot during a lock down as they did on both chlamydia outbreaks when there was a lock down.

I stopped shooting pro performers but not couples.

Ive heard stories of performers in europe using lockdowns to charge more for working.

22 cases Hiv outbreak in porn valley

US porn industry hit by Aids fears as 16 cases of HIV revealed
US health officials are investigating California's multi-billion-dollar porn industry after it emerged that there have been 16 unpublicised cases of HIV among adult film actors since a 2004 outbreak made headlines.

Published: 10:47PM BST 12 Jun 2009

It was revealed this week that a woman tested positive for HIV immediately after making an adult film, raising new concerns about Aids in the lucrative pornography industry.

The revelation came in response to a request for information by the Los Angeles Times, which reported that the unidentified actress had tested positive.

The adult film industry said it was the first case since the 2004 outbreak, the LA Times reported.

In fact, 22 performers have tested positive, including last week's case and five in 2004, according to the numbers released by the Los Angeles county Department of Public Health.

Since the 2004 outbreak, in which one male star infected three actresses and another performer also tested positive, the $12-billion-a-year (?7.2-billion-a-year) US adult film industry has required regular testing by actors.

Most of that testing is conducted by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, which issues work certificates to the performers who test negative.

The unnamed actress first tested positive for HIV on June 4 and worked the following day before taking second and third tests, according to the Times.

The second test was also positive and results of the third were pending, according to AIM Healthcare.

"AIM Healthcare has never been cooperative with us and our investigations," Dean Fryer, a spokesman for the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health, told the paper, adding that the clinic had refused to name the actress or her employer.

In a statement on its website, AIM Healthcare said it was still awaiting "final confirmation" that the actress was positive for HIV.

The porn industry, which is largely centred in the San Fernando Valley suburbs of Los Angeles, includes about 200 production companies that employ about 1,200 actors, according to the paper.

Since 2004, 1,357 porn performers have tested positive for gonorrhea and 15 for syphilis, according to county health data cited by the Times.
