I always laugh at those signs they put up saying 98.6% of their trains arrived within 5 minutes of the designated time - well I must ALWAYS be on the 1.4% that don't. Lying bastards as well as greedy robbing bastards.

How the f**k do the greenies ever expect us to use the trains with the prices they charge?

Just a few weeks ago I had cause to make a short notice trip to London (2 of us) ?163 each!

It would have been cheaper to drive, pay the london car tax, park anywhere, get clamped or towed, and pay the release fee that it would to go by train.
We have need of you again, great king.

www.thetrainline.com/ are very ggod...the savings come if you can book in advance..even a day makes a difference. If you just turn up you're paying through the nose and its a disgrace.

But it would be a lot simpler if the fare structure was the same as most European countries apply.

Fare = km x price per km
First class fare = 150% of second class fare
Supplement for express trains
Return = twice single fare, with discount if you return on the same day

Child Fares 40% or 50% of an adult. Any discount from above comes off according to what card you hold, student, oap etc.

It's as simple as that - no buggering on with booking months in advance and the fares are affordable and actually less than it would cost to drive.

Most times, except for local journies, I can't even be bothered to try and find out how much it would cost or whether it's possible to get there on a cheap ticket, seeing you need to book specific trains and the return journey is always about four times the price. It's just easier to drive.

Im no businessman, so i dont think logic when it comes to business. Forgive me its doesn't make sense.

But it seems to me that the rail companies wants us to use their services, yet cannot persuade us, because of the extortion costs. And in doing so, is losing MORE revenue.

So here's my not so logical thought.....Why not put the prices DOWN to a level so that customers would insist to go by train, instead of using cars or other means of transport. Id rather have 100 passengers paying, Lets say: ?20, than have two paying ?80. Its called, bums on seats.

Its the same with the M6 Toll road, they too have just put up the prices (once again), due to the fact that no one is using that road. People are not thick, we can see through these greedy companies, and we're just voting with our feet, by not using either the trains or M6 Toll.

What it boils down to is, companies and the directors are just greedy, and try to justify it by saying they have to look after the share holders, and the extra revenue will IMPROVE the services. THINK NOT!

Sorry, if I've been waffling, and making no sense.
