Re: Avram Grant Sacked
Can't see how much more he could have done under the circumstances. I don't think it's through footballing reasons and more to do with player power (Lampard won't commit unless a manager that carries more respect is signed?)

At least our resident anti-semites will be happy.
Atrocious treatment of a guy who deserves respect.

I think it's pathetic. What manager in his right mind will want to work for them anyway. The guy wouldnt be safe in his job unless he won every competition going. Then if he did, he'd need to win the effing world cup next.

Re: Avram Grant Sacked
A better question will be who to replace him with?
Steve McClaren?
Sam Allardyce?
Or....maybe Gordon Brown, if he's available by August?

Re: Avram Grant Sacked
Hardly unexpected, but a shock nevertheless. I didn't rate him as a manager, especially with his tactics, but did I think he held himself high considering all that was said about him by the media. he conducted himself with dignity and deserved more than the shoddy treatment by Kenyon and Buck, two names I'd personally love to see leave my beloved Chelsea.
Reminded me of Claudio Ranieri whos tinkering and team selections had me scratching my head, but again, conducted himself with dignity when it was obvious the hierachy at the club wanted him out.
A sad day at the club, Chelsea were runners up in 3 competitions and that is better than Arsenal and Liverpool this season, but now its all a muti-mega money business.

Re: Avram Grant Sacked
Let's face it, Grant was originally only "Technical Director" because of his connections, not because of any great footballing pedigree. When he was in a similar role at Portsmouth it was said of him that his main task was to put the cones out before training!! Had he not been at Chelsea as TD, I doubt he would have been made manager when JM left.
I agree he has conducted himself with dignity; however not wanting him as manager in the first place, and posting regularly that I had no faith in him long-term is not being anti-Semitic. Had he been Catholic, I would still have felt the same way. So, overall, I'm pleased to see the back of him.
As to who might replace him, there's been a lot of talk recently about Roberto Mancini. Given he was once possibly offered the job, and given he may also be out of a job himself soon (though the owner doesn't seem to know how to make up his mind at the owner) it's possible we could see Sven at the Bridge. The funniest bit of gossip I saw was regarding the return of JM based on he and RA exchanging a few friendly phone calls recently.

Poor Grant.
Chelsea lost just 5 games all season, and were so close to winning both the Premiership and the Champions League (i'm a UTD fan, but credit where credit is due!) - and this is his reward?!
Tommy Docherty was just on Sky News - he was disgusted, wondering what the club had come to.
I feel sorry for Chelsea fans knowing their club is being treated as some rich oil tycoons fancy train set.
Which manager is seriously going to fancy working under these pressures and conditions?
There's far too much of this happening lately - i'm under no illusions that even Ferguson's job would've be under threat from the Glazer's, if he'd had not done as well as he has the last two seasons.

Re: Avram Grant Sacked
Not surprised at all, as soon as Van Der Saar saved Anelka's penalty Grant was out of a job.
As far as Abramovich is concerned no trophies = no job even after only 8 month's as manager.

Re: Avram Grant Sacked
I think Grant would have gone regardless I'm afraid. I just think certain players at Chelsea have a big say in what goes on.
Frank 'yes we know your Mum's died' Lampard has probably insisted that he be consulted on potential managerial targets before deciding on his future; Didier 'the diving slapper' Drogba couldn't even be arsed to acknowledge Grant for half a season; and John 'the crying, snotting on other players, slipping when no one else does, pissing in nightclubs and thinks it's funny, disabled parking-space hogger' Terry will be demanding that he wants a manager that will sit back and let him dictate team tactics, traqining and teamtalks.
