thinking of buying my first console to get a bit of hd usage from new tv,what is the best to go for
i was thinking of the ps3 coz of the blu ray drive so getting a blu ray player+games console for less than blu ray player alone or is the x box a better machine
any good games to go for also
cheers so much

Re: x box 360 or ps3
Im biased because I have an X Box bit i you want the option of Blu Ray then go ps3 but I think there is more available from X BOx like downloading hd movies among other things. I can even message people on im when playing a game which is a cool feature and stream music through my pc which sounds great.
Or why not get both? I would for Blu Ray and the upcoming metal gear solid.

Re: x box 360 or ps3
i have a 360 and it's a top machine
there has been RELIABILITY issues with the 360 but i believe the new machines are alot better in build.
also it has a 3 year warranty and is far cheaper than the ps3
plus it has a far greater range of games available for it
the ps3 does have blue-ray but time will tell if this format will truely take off and succeed over dvd
so if you want a machine for say games more than watching a film then the xbox is the machine to get, or if you prefer to watch movies then get a ps3
you could aslo get a dvd player that up scales dvd to 1080p for a fraction of the price of the ps3 too.

Re: x box 360 or ps3
i also have a wii and yes, it isn't hd, so wouldn't take great advantage of your new telly
but if you want a console to play games that everybody and anybody can play together with, then this is the console for you, just look at the sales of the machine totally out sold the xbox and ps3 conbined
wii sports is brilliant so is mario cart (you can play online) all multi player fun
think of it this way you can buy a xbox and a wii for the price of a ps3!

can you do the online game thing with the ps3 as well jeff, ive got a wireless home network so which console would take advantage of this?ps3 is wifi isnt it,is the x box wifi?
Re: x box 360 or ps3
get both dude.hours of fun mate.
Re: x box 360 or ps3
I have both and basically if i had to pick one id say go for the xbox.
The PS3 has the upper advantage with the Blu-Ray PLayer but as a general rule of thumb everything that's available on the PS3 is also available on the 360.
360 is a better games console with better online stuff and better casual games. Obviously if you have a preference for a specific game only available on 1 console that will make a lot of difference.
So what it really boils down to is how important the blu-ray drive is and do you want a media centre or a good games console.
Hope this helps
