Factory Records

Post by ATS »

A show about the rise and fall of factory is on BBC4 at nine tonight
Could be interesting. Apparently the idea was to interview Tony Wilson,
then all the others involved and then talk to Tony again

They only managed the first interview due to his untimely death.
In fact says on beeb website that they were putting the credits onto
this fim when they heard he had died

The last time I saw Tony Wilson was when he was interviewing Steve Coogan's Steve Coogan character in 'A Cock And Bull Story'.

I caught the last half hour - they're repeating it again on Monday night - the story about the Happy Mondays in Barbados is still amazing.

One of the amazing things to me was when Saville was talking about the design of 'Unknown Pleasures' and either he or someone else said that the attitude of the design was 'We don't care if anyone buys this or not'. That's a pretty unique statement to make and it's unusual for a product not to seek to court and seduce the consumer.

There are lots of contemporary bands with pretensions to being 'edgy', 'punky' and 'independent' etc but do you think the Klaxons or Babyshambles care about whether they sell? Of course they do because their motivations are success and money. Not so with the Factory acts.

Also the film Control is out soon, and you can see it for free, well if your a Guardian reader. "http://www.momentumscreenings.co.uk"
Looks really good,
the guy who plays Ian really looks like him on the poster.

Ian Curtis is played in "Control" by Sam Reily who played Mark E Smith in "24 hour party people"

You right it does look a half decent film

Hey!!

Just finished watching this. What a wonderfull piece of work it was as well!!

The only critism I can really make of it was that it was every so often it would strike you that "Fuck me Tony Wilson is dead" which was strangley upsetting.

Nothing here that any fans or observers of Musical culture on the whole would not know. Just a absolute joy to watch from start to finish.

Catch it on monday night if you missed it any one....I urge you.

Cheers

BB
