This could be a very touchy subject, I have a four year old and although I would not have left her alone for one second, I would not wish this on my worst enemy, I hope her parents get her back safe and sound very soon.

I am unaware of the law with regards to child abandonment, endangerment or gross negilgence other than "never leave kids alone!" so don't feel I can comment on whether they will have the book thrown at them or not, I think the pain they are feeling at the moment will be far worse than any court ruling they may or may not receive.

With regards to the time issue, just look at other cases like Shawn Hornbeck (American child missing for 1558 days and found alive) - not all kids are lost forever.

I'm following the press reports and keep getting the words DOCTORS and ALGARVE thrust at me.

I wonder how the reporting would be if they were UNEMPLOYED in BLACKPOOL or any other "lesser" combination of profession and location?

Of course I wouldn't wish this on anyone and the only relevent victim is Madeleine but I have no doubt that their "we know best" attitude has placed their daughter in an horrific situation.

I am not being class prejudice here but as they are doctors you know they are university educated and would assume they are reasonable intelligent people, this is often the case that intelligent people have no common sense! It could be a one-off moment of madness, due home today so thought "should be ok", for all we know, they could have left them alone each night for the past 7 nights and someone was watching and waited until the right moment, either way you are right Kinetic the only victim here is Madeleine and I hope that she will be found asap, the news states that they do have someone in mind which again could mean a)they do and we should hear anytime now she is safe or b)they haven't a clue and are stalling!

I have to say no matter where the parents come from, no matter what job they do the press will always be a big factor when a child goes missing.
