Paypal Account
Paypal Account
I am looking at opening one of these and was hoping somebody good could me a few pointers seeing as i know very little about this.
Firstly I dont have a credit or debit card, can I open one using just my bank account?
How much does it cost to open an account and how do i pay paypal?
How safe is paypal and how exactly does it work?
Any other tips would be greatly received. They may seem like silly questions but i am not up to speed in this area.
Thanks
Re: Paypal Account
This should help you, but I don't use them, they are not as helpful as you think, especially with ebay purchases

Re: Paypal Account
We could talk on the subject for hours about this...
I've bought many an item on Ebay, without Paypal.A lot of people will not except it,others swear by it...then we have a catch!
This doesn't give people a choice,of paying by personal cheque or P/O.
BUT the problem with 'personal cheques' are:they could be duds, and it's time consuming waiting for them going through the bank for clearance.P/O cheques are the best way of paying, the client would post the goods the following day.
You could find other ways of paying if the goods are being purchased abroad. You don't deal with certain countries either, such as the Far East.
I tried getting a paypal account once:it was a minefield of pass codes,I gave up...Im glad I did,because I didn't need it after all.
Anyhow, that's my own personal experience in a nutshell.I've always received the goods,I have a high credit rating as a 'good payer' with ebay.(the clients can check you out).Everything fine.

Re: Paypal Account
I am a regular buyer and occasional seller at eBay. I don't accept cheques or money orders and don't pay by them. Cashing a cheque costs at least 7 euros and a money order at least 10 euros in my country. That's often more than the item I bought or sold!

Re: Paypal Account
I use paypal for transfer of money. Recent example was a transfer of ?20 and I received ?19.75p. I thought the 25p charge was fair as it is such a convenient service.

Re: Paypal Account
Paypal is good for buyers..for sellers it is crap.A buyer only has to say they did not get the goods and paypal debits your account unless you provide a 'tracking number' which buyers often dont pay for!
Re: Paypal Account
You can open a paypal account from your bank account and for paying for items it is free to use and convenient. You can also claim the money back if you get ripped off by a seller (never tried it so do not know how long it takes)
As a seller on ebay I find the fees do mount up by accepting paypal, especially on low value items but it is a price you pay for ease of getting paid.
