Leeds United R.I.P

Post by matt414 »

My first ever season going to Elland Road was when I was 11 and that year we one the old division one!
What a season that was, Elland Road was like a fortress back then and the players played with their hearts and never ever gave up.
Strachan, Batty, Macalister, Chapman, Speed they were all stars who wanted to play for the club.
And now!? What the Fuc* is going on! I went to the QPR game last week and what a load of shit! A team made up of reject loan signings who played like they could not give a flying toss! No heart and no pride in playing for the team.
How the mighty have fallen, Ken and his ex Chelsea cronies should fuc* off back down south.

I'm an Owl and I speak for all Sheffielders when I say I sympathise with your plight.

Then again, I'll be laughing my bollocks off when you go down down down.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Good. I hate Leeds and I for one have been laughing ever since they went into administration. City of 500000 people and they can't fill a stadium of 40000. Pathetic. I've hated Leeds ever since their knuckle dragger fans went on a rampage through Watford after they got knocked out of the FA Cup in '92.

Leeds fans trashed WBA's away end not once but twice in 10 years. They will win a trophy under Cuddly Ken though- the Conference in about 4 years time.

Me too, Sam!

I've been following Wednesday since 1972 and it's been the same old fucking story ever since, pretty much. Apart from that brief period in the early '90s under Fat Ron when we won the League Cup and looked like we might actually be going somewhere at last.

But then he jumped ship for Villa and normal service was swiftly resumed (the 2 lost Cup Finals in '93 notwithstanding).

What was it recently? Something like six wins on the spin - then 4 defeats and a draw. Same old bloody story, how often has something like that happened?!

Have to confess though, I haven't been to an actual game for a few years - but since I live in Germany I have the perfect excuse!

!laugh!

What is it with Bates? He was supposed to rescue Leeds from going to the wall, wasn't he? Instead he takes them straight back.

It's a shame, it really is.

I thought Tricky Trev did ok in his first two seasons. We got 3rd in the Premiership, and then 7th with two cup finals (where we outplayed Arsenal 3 times but they always scored in the last fucking minute - and they played shit football).

I knew our recent winning streak wouldn't last, but I think we're finally turning the corner after years of the doldrums. Last year we made a little profit which was the first time in about 5 years so hopefully the futures looking brighter. (better than Leeds' future anyway).

Even though we've had a bad 10 years, we still took more fans to Cardiff for the League one playoff final than Arsenal or Chelsea took in the Coca-Cola cup final this year! We got offered 40,000 which were sold out within a few hours, were granted 6000 more which went in 20 mins, and the rest travelled up to Hartlepool and purchased their tickets. Including forgeries, we got around 55-60,000 into the Millennium Stadium.

Talking of Leeds though, they're our next game so I don't want to take the piss too much incase they beat us and I look foolish........(some will think 'again!')

Sam, what you say about our support is very true. It's always been solid.

Home gates of 20-odd thousand in League 1 when other teams were getting a fraction of that.

I try to blank those two Cup Finals from my mind, especially the FA Cup final replay. But I remember sitting there listening to it at the time on the World Service and thinking that "we're going to get done in the very last minute" - and we were.

That's always been our problem down the years - well one of them! I've lost count of the times I've seen a Wednesday side leak a goal in injury time to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory or a defeat from the jaws of a draw. Or when we've completely murdered teams 1-1 !!!

Still at least last Saturday the boot was on the other foot with a last-minute penalty in our favour for that much-needed win. I think we're pretty safe this season. Might even be pushing for the play-offs if we have another decent run and other results go our way.

As for Leeds, well part of me kind of sniggers at their misfortune and seemingly terminal decline. But part of me also feels sorry for them when you consider how great they were during the Revie era. They really should have won far more trophies than they actually did. So often the nearly-men.
