escorts or prostitutes

Post by b217bravo »

A recent posting on a yahoo group posed the question "what is the difference between a prostitute & an escort".
At first reading I thought the answer was clear but on further reflection I'm not too sure.
Everyone understands that the definition of a prostitute is a woman who sells her body for sex, but the definition of an Escort in the adult industry does not appear to be so clear cut.
My definition of an Escort (probably wrong) has always been a high class model selling her body for sex, if this is correct is there any difference between a prostitue & an Escort?

Bit of an old fashioned view here....I always thought of an escort as a beautiful partner you have the company of for the evening, but without the happy ending.....

Escort, prostitute, working girl, hooker, high-class escort, courtesian...

All the same, some are just more expensive than others.

My take on it is that an "escort" is basically a prostitute who is (or has pretentions of being) a "higher class" type of hooker. Irrespective of whether or not she's also a model in the adult industry.

"Escorts" frequently offer company as well as sex - for example dinner in a swanky hotel restaurant first and a chat about current affairs, followed by a shag.

This is why those prostitutes calling themselves "escorts" tend to cater more to your "executive types" with money to spend, as opposed to providing a service for Joe Soap who just wants a quick 40-quid bunk-up lasting maybe half an hour.

He's more likely to just settle for the good old traditional "working girl" - otherwise referred to in common parlance as a "prostitute".

But seeing as the dictionary definition of a prostitute is "a woman who engages in sexual activities in exchange for money", I'd say that an "escort" who trades sex for money is a basically a prostitute.

And if he's a real low-life, cheapskate, scumbag, he'll probably not want to spend as much as ?40.00 or even want the most perfunctory social interaction with his punt. He'll probably settle for a 'street girl' - a divi, drug and aids addled, scrubber down some awful urine soaked alleyway. This is the sort of dude who digs Max Hardcore. A pox on his house.

Prosser = sex only. In, out, kettle on.

Escort (1): outdated old car made by Ford. More expensive, and has more longevity than, a prosser. Both carry the same stigma to be seen with or, indeed, in (!).

Escort (2): Companionship, chat, dinner for a limited period of time PLUS sex, sex in this case being not as high a priority as in the transaction with the prosser. Essentially, pseudo-relationship + sex.

That's my interpretation!
