alan shearer
alan shearer
i know he's probably the most consistant of strikers over the last ten years but am i the only person that thinks he wasted his career playing for newcastle when he might of won many medals and trophies at another club.

maybe he has enjoyment as his priority

It's his choice, isn't it?
Re: alan shearer
You're probably right but he has been playing for the team he supports and who can value that? Also where else would he have had the adoration the Newcastle Fans have given him?
Re: alan shearer
I may be in the minority here but I can't see what the fuss is about him beating Jackie Milburn's record. At least Jackie won trophies with Newcastle and Shearer has had the luxury of 4 extra tournaments with which to get the record (League Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup and the Mickey Mouse Intertoto Cup), unlike Jackie.
The goals don't mean nothing if you've won nothing. Thierry Henry has banged in 200 goals for Arsenal in half the time Shearer has had to put 201 in and Henry has won a shedful of medals to boot.

Thing is, Shearer is a living god in Toon. A man with an ego as big as his, must love that. Bad hair. Very bad hair.

Re: alan shearer
i pretty much agree. i don't see what the big deal was with shearer breaking the record. i think the newcastle game was even the main game on MOTD, like the whole country were staying in wanting to see alan break wor' jackie's record. as has been pointed out many clubs have record scorers who put alan and jackie's acheivements in the shade, just look at my team liverpool.
I'm sure its a significant event for newcastle fans but not the rest of the country given that newcastle have never really been a successful team, even when jackie milburn was playing. being top scorer for a club that has hardly ever won anything is only really a testiment to shearer's longevity, blimey he seems like he's been at the toon for ever.
credit to him for being loyal and all that but i don't think of him as one of the game's greats just because he's mighty newcastle's top scorer.
