Just read an article (Yeah yeah- I can read) about adult sites on dot coms (or dot anything else too I imagine) being moved to a dot xxx site so they are more easily identifiable and that they are not so accessible to those who might accidentally stumble across it....Sounds like a good idea and in keeping with the subject of sex too
What do you think? Do you think its a US government conspiracy to group us all together prior to execution or genuinely what it seems?
From dot com to dot xxx?

Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
Well it could work but i expect because they think that everyone involved in porn is making a fortune they would charge a fortune for a xxx.com domain and as the internet is worlwide who can dictate what domain you have to use.
Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
Nothing more than a tool to control the sites and the people who access them ... it's a lot easier for censoring proxies to pick out anything ending in .xxx that trying to decide whether the .com is ok or not. A seemingly good idea that will have bad consequences.
Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
this was something spoke about a while back by IDS before he was hunted out of power and no doubt will be the first attempt to keep porn in a .xxxbox malc
Dont tell me how good you are, show me.

Wont Happen, There is alot of talk on the other side that if the US try this, it will be met with force and since the last event like this lead to UU net taking a vacation with the whale poo, its a reasonably serious thread.
There is also the issue of www.new.net ALREADY selling .xxx domains, albeit not true domains but all the time, Expect MANY to launch law suits.
Plus there is alot of resistance from the Mary Whitehouse brigade about creating a virtual red light district.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Mary Whitehouse was a dear old lady that brought many a smile with her handbag and umbrella waving diddery pokery at the lustful exhuberances of youth going on back in the day...Gawd bless her packet of Rennies...These days she has been overshadowed by the malevolence of George Bush and his god bothering religious types....Hell hath no fire than a man who wants to get re-elected.
Thankfully americans must deem the battle against pornography a bigger issue than saving a bunch of n***ers in New Orleans...Oops did I really say that?! Shocking! I must have lost myself for a moment...
Oh yes...very good points planeterotica and cenobitez.

Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
Another reason it won't happen is that any website dealing with anything "adult" will be given a .xxx address and that doesn't sit well with those that have businesses that are not strictly porn but are adult in nature - the "sex advice/self help" type sites. Whats to stop the site for FHM and the like becoming .xxx websites because of the "adult content"?

Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
I think there is a clear diference between FHM "adult" and adult industry "adult" so the distinction would be fairly obvious.

Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
Totally agree with you there OEJ, to you and me yes there is a difference, but what about those who's decision it is? Will they see things like The Lovers Guide as porn or not?
We only have to look at the situation with OFCOM to see how it can all go wrong! !grin!

Re: From dot com to dot xxx?
Several months ago I read that the xxx domain was ready to be launched and someone from the Bush Administration put a stop to it.
I recall one of the officials quoted as saying they didn't want to grant legitimacy to porn industry. The press didn't seem to follow this story too closely and I'm not sure what came of it.
Anyway, perhaps the Bush administration believed the xxx domain would somehow make porn more pretty and artistic and more accepted by the mainstream. God forbid someone should look at porn that has artistic merit.
This gives credence to the idea that the xxx domain involved some kind of censorship but i'm not sure it was exactly how this forum had envisioned it.
