Re: The reality of racism
Unless there's more info, why is this a racist murder?
We have need of you again, great king.
Re: The reality of racism
Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Bernard Lawson said: "What we are dealing with here is an unprovoked and vicious attack on a young black man which we believe to be racially motivated."
What this doesn't say, but which the BBC bulletin did an hour or so ago, was that the victim's girl friend is white.

Re: The reality of racism
Just wondered why it was called racial as it didn't give any indication in the linked story, other than the victim being black.

Re: The reality of racism
From what I heard on the BBC bulletin, one of the attackers shouted racist abuse at the victim before he gathered his thug mates and attacked the guy.In my opinion this makes it a racist incident.
Re: The reality of racism
Because he's black and his murderers were white I suppose, and the police say they had been verbally abused prior to the attack... wouldn't be surprised if the taunts had reference to recent events. Another innocent victim.
Re: The reality of racism
Too many scumbags like the thugs that did this still pollute our society sadly, probably dragged up by lazy useless parents who told them that going out and commiting as much violence as you can is a good thing. Another life wasted cause of a racist, seems like the stephen lawrence tragedy didnt change things much.

"Unless there's more info, why is this a racist murder?"
Good question. I don't know the ins and outs of this case, but in previous similar instances, where perpetrator and victim are of differing ethnicity, the cause of the affray well have been a simple dispute between two males - their differing colour being irrelevant and unconnected with the cause of the argument that lead to the murder. However, in these circumstances the BBC, Channel Four News, and the race relations industry immediately cry 'racist murder!' and make a big hullabaloo about it. Now, if a chav had axed another chav in, say, Darlington, it probably would not have made the national news. So, why pray, is it deemed a bigger deal by poncy middleclass sorts if the victim (note 'victim') is black? If it had been the other way round (victim white), once again, it would probably not have merited a mention.
I can just imagine John Snow now, on Channel 4, gravely intoning the news of this 'racist' murder. He?s probably bumped it up to be the headline story, the poncy twat. But, hold on. There's probably been umpteen other murders around the country today - so, why is this one anymore significant to middleclass sorts, like John Snow, and all those other nonces on Radio 4? This is the kind of thing that makes me want to give 'em a slap! (Maybe I'm classist?)
I'm not saying this was not a racist murder - if it was, it was truly despicable. But by no means all fights, agro and murders between those of differing ethnicity are racist. Even if racist oaths are uttered, it still doesn?t mean it is a racist attack - When you are in physical conflict with someone else you instinctively grab the nearest insults and weapons that may be to hand. So, for instance, if the other guy is short you say "Back off, short arse, or I'll fill you in! Or, if your opponent is of a bespectacled persuasion, you would say, "Shut it, yer four-eyed git. Or I'll break yer fuckin' glasses - While yer wearin' 'em! Doesn?t mean you're shortist or spectacleist and consider those of that persuasion inferior scum who should be eliminated, does it? No, of course not. So, lets just be wary of middleclass sorts invoking race at ever turn. Maybe it's ironic that by doing so, it is they who are being 'racist'.

Re: The reality of racism
Im not middle class, but the fact that this student who tragically got axed was black and the row involved his white g/f the odds are heavily on this being a racist attack i would say. But i agree with you about Jon Snow i think hes a bit of a tosser also..
