Man police shot y/day 'not connected'

Post by Illinoisblue »

I bet sales of rucksacks and heavy coats will be dropping heavily in muslim areas of London.

from the Guardian:
The man shot dead in Stockwell tube station yesterday was not connected to the attempted bombings of London on July 21, police said tonight.
Police said the shooting was a "tragedy" and they expressed "regret".

In a statement, the Metropolitan police said: "We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell underground station by police on Friday July 22 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.

"We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday July 21 2005.

"For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets.

"The man emerged from a block of flats in the Stockwell area that were under police surveillance as part of the investigation into the incidents on Thursday July 21.

"He was then followed by surveillance officers to the underground station. His clothing and behaviour added to their suspicions."

Scotland Yard said the circumstances of the man's death were being investigated by the Met's directorate of professional standards, and will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Ah sarcasm what a wonderful tool but please tell us how to combat these apparent problems we have.

I hope you will take the time and effort to reply

Run from police officers with guns, shouting warnings to stop, and you would be blown away under all circumstances, let alone recent ones.

Totally the right decision in my opinion. And I hope they'd do it again, if circumstances were repeated.

The media has pretyy much been shut out, from what I can see. The police are playing their cards very close to their chest---not surprising in the circumstances. There are observation operations continuing, investigations into the suspected would-be bombers, raids on various homes in London . . . And someone suspected of being in cahoots with the network behind the atrocities has been shot dead

The woman from Liberty interviewed on Channel 4 News tonight was sensible, adopting a wait and see stance before saying anything about yesterday's killing. It could be that an innocent man has been executed with extreme prejudice; it could be he had done something that made him run from the police. We just don't know, and no one is telling us at the moment.

Something we take for granted here is having information to hand. Given how useful information is to terorrist cells, the authorities are withholding it from everyone. It's leaving us in the dark, and our own agendas dictate what we believe about the situation.

Yes I will reply Rudeboy.
So many people on here seemed to be welcoming the fact that an assumed terrorist had been killed I was being sarcastic in the hope of getting a sympathetic response.
None of us know the full facts but as in so many of these police shootings one can't help wondering if there aren't alternatives.
But I don't think you would agree. You are so full of poisonous bile you probably approve of termination with extreme prejudice. Saves the cost of a trial doesn't it. And perhaps he was a Socialist Worker type, good riddance then eh!
