Is this UKrental site genuine?

Post by jh132 »

I have just come across www.cheekydvd.com

It is a dvd rental service offering R18 dvd's for rental in the UK. I thought that the distribution of R18 by mail was illegal.

Does anyone know if this service is either legal or genuine? The website looks pretty slick but I wonder if it is a scam?

If it is legal and above board I bet it will be popular.

according to the gov't-

Current Controls on Sales of R18 videos

2.2 There are strict controls on the sale of videoworks which are given an R18 classification. Under Section 12 of the Video Recordings Act 1984, such videos can only be sold in a licensed sex shop - of which there are approximately 90 in England and Wales plus two in Scotland - to adults aged 18 and over. They cannot be legally sold by mail order, supplied through ordinary video outlets or shown on television. Their supply other than in a licensed sex shop would be a criminal offence subject to a fine of up to ?5,000, six months' imprisonment, or both.

The reasoning behind the above is that r18 videos/dvds should not end up in the hands of minors, therefore even the act of renting such material by post would mean that the suppliers would not know who is actually receiving their material.
The fact the parent company Exfinity is based in Scotland and is quoting Scottish law is worrying as there are only two licensed sex shops in Scotland.

they claim:
CheekyDVD.com is based on a proven technology and logistics system and is the only company in the UK with a license to distribute R18 material by mail-order.

yeah right! sole licensee for whole of UK, who gave them this license?
certainly not the Scottish or British gov't- just e-mail the company and ask for this evidence and copy of the license.
but it does sound like a bonafide business though so I don't wanna knock those guys as it's a great idea.
