Hi girls

I recently lost my day job when they were tipped off about my adult industry alter ego.

I've heard over the past few weeks of a few other girls who have suffered the same fate.

I think society is changing and this is no longer an unacceptable job. In a poll in the local paper 70% of people said I should have kept my job. I would like to hear from anyone else who has lost their job in this way.

I think it's time for a change! What do you guys think?

I totally agree so long one does not affect the other e.g.

tired at work because also working / webcamming in the evening / early morning

answering emails, posting on twitter etc while at work

ultimately difficult to define but not attracting undue attention if in a public facing role e.g. word gets around and people coming to a shop simply to see you not buy the products sold.

Unfortunately, rightly or wrongly, a company will always err on the side of caution when it comes to potential damage to their reputation that could reflect on their profits.

Regardless of our individual views, there is a large section of society that sees pornography as wrong and could potentially take a negative view of the company employing someone who also works in the adult industry.

Unless you can change the entrenched attitudes of this section of the population, as well as discourage the type of people Sparky mentioned, who might come to someone's place of work just to gawp at them and in the process disrupt their employer's business activities, I think you'll struggle to get a positive result from your campaign.

That might have been so in the past but 70% of the public said if it doesn't effect her performance at work what's the problem.

Employment laws don't take public opinion into consideration.

Whether your past affects your performance at work or not, the "problem" is that the company's directors may deem an employee's past as a sex worker as something that may damage its reputation, which you will find is often justifiable grounds for dismissal whether you committed a crime or not.

It's widely acknowledged and has been for years that being a sex worker, especially an adult model/performer, is likely to limit your career opportunities, especially when working in the public eye or with children. I don't see ignorance of the fact being any sort of argument against your dismissal.

As Millzy said, public opinion isn't legally relevant, and in this specific example, the 70% in agreement were just the people who read one story in one newspaper and then could be bothered to vote, so possibly not representative of the public as a whole.
