Is British porn dying

Post by m100 »

following on from someone's thread about 'is this site dying' i thought we might as well have the 'is british porn dying' thread.

No doubt the blame the streaming sites argument will be raised as the be all and end all of the british industry's problems but what else is wrong with british porn.

is it the girls? are there too many girls with huge fake tits, too many girls plastering themselves with tatoos. Do performers lterally jump in too easily at the deep end and do dp, anal etc whereas there used to be some gradual move in levels. Do we only want the more natural performers, we all saw the general approval and worshipping of samantha bentley last year - should this be a message to producers and directors. Have all the girls who might have done porn been swept into the easy money of the tv phone sex channels where they can rip viewers off with promises that are never met at ?1.53 per minute plus connection and videos or photos at ?3 a time?

Is it the laws (my old personal favourite), not enough licensed premises, too expensive to have a dvd certified? Too expensive to buy, in particular just one dvd? Too much product, too little product. Is it easier to join the downloadable site of your choice?

Do the streaming sites any porn in a storm, come one come all, really take away that much business. It is after all not much more than the cost of a pint of beer a week to join most legitimate sites for a full year and download safe in the knowledge that you're not going to be the next victim of some scam blackmail mail-out when your isp hands over addresses. or is it simply that the world of entertainment has changed and that satellite tv, games etc have reduced peoples disposable income.

Have the americans won? Does the proliferation of us porn simply swamp the brits. Is it harder than we produce? Are gangbangs, multiple pussy/arse penetration circus acts the answer. Is it the europeans are they too classy for us. Have we lost interest in girls we might actually have a chance of fucking because we want the unatainable sandra shine's, eve angel's of viv thomas fantasy land?

or have we become a nation of daily mail readers?

Brit porn isn't dying. The nature of porn has changed. Sites like AW, Clips for sale etc. The tube sites have a lot to answer for and then there is the general economic climate. MOST producers can't make the same money out of it as they used to. There are exceptions to this rule though.

The harder you cum. The more you enjoy it.

I saw a poll somewhere. Can't remember where which conclusively stated that most people (there are always exceptions) preferred home grown porn.

What a shame so many hurdles, (ATVOD, high cost of BBFC approval, ban on mailing R18 videos, so called 'extreme' porn prohibitions) are erected to inhibit domestic production. It will get even worse when the money grabbing censors at ATVOD get round to policing UK producers, big and small, using Clips4sale and Adultwork.

I actually blame the industry for tube sites but little will be done by the industry because it spends to much time defending itself, blaming others outside of it for its problems etc.

In my opinion there are far to many rip off's, sites not updated etc. but you only have to look at the 'industry' responses when someone complains to see why nothing will be done.

The consequence of the 'industry' rallying round to protect one of it's own, for me, is fuck it I won't buy / won't subscribe etc. and it's only when the 'industry' starts saying to companies you're out of order that the trust side of things will ever improve.

There are other things models who simply aren't but feel they are for example who appear on some sites that they simply wouldn't a few years ago but as everyone has different tastes I am not sure looks are the main issue, it's the why should I try X and be risk being ripped off when I know I can go free and not be, that's the industries biggest problem.

IMO it is a long way from dying but certainly declining and changing.

A major factor is the same as for the entertainment sector in general that due to the long recession most potential consumers / customers have in real terms significantly less disposable income than 5 years ago.
Hence fewer DVD purchases, online downloads or VOD purchases, website subscriptions and bookings for models by studios for group shoots and by individuals for their private collection.

Add in the hurdles of ATVOD, BBFC etc inevitably producers are finding the returns are not worthwhile.

Similarly for live venues both 'gentlemen's clubs' and places arranging occasional events the combination of increased legalisation / restrictions and a decline in income has made many cease to be viable.

Bootlegging in some form has been around ever since VCR's hit the home. 25ish years ago a group of employees in a big factory had a stack of VCR's tucked in a disused store room churning out porn copies until they got caught. DVD was quicker / easier to copy and distribute and now the tube sites make it easier still plus are accessible without either having to meet contacts in person or have brown parcels in the post. What has changed is that the bootleg copies are now free rather than having to be paid for but of course it is the bootleggers rather than the original producers who have lost out.

For the girls the big change is the opportunity to be on cam on AW whenever it suits them plus to upload photosets and videos. With their own website they either had to have the skill to run it or contract someone to do it for them.
Also they don't have to spend time answering enquiries, arranging shoot bookings then have the commitment for the time plus loosing the travelling time even if the cost was fully paid.

The tats, big fake tits etc debate will run and run since some consumers like them and some don't particularly when a girl they used to find attractive in their eyes disfigures herself. However I don't think overall it is a major contributor to the decline.

Not at all. Infact British girls are starting to make a big impact again at Vivthomas.com
Since Nadia (Pixie) and Summer (Tara English) retired little less than 10 years ago. No brits have featured in Viv's production for a long while. But Since 2009 til the current time. More British girls have featured since then. Natalia Forest, Paige Turnah, Marlyn Lindsay, Rebecca More, Samantha Bentley, Lexi Lowe and just recently Karina Currie. Plenty more ladies to come in up and coming movies. The Brits are making a come back.

British porn should try to be more originial, and real, like french porn,. I appreciate there are reailty porn sites and gonzo sites that are british, but just watch any french porn and a lot of it is shot in a way that is just class, and the women are just natural.

I think porn Worldwide is feeling the effects of the downturn in the global economy, plus the game changing emergence of the internet that despite being almost 20 years old now all creative industries have failed to cope with.

The only reason it may feel worse over here is because we have a smaller industry in general.

I will be honest though. I don't enjoy watching British Porn.
I watch mainly Japanese porn these days for two reasons -
1. I find the girls far more appealing. I don't like fake breasts, tattoos, piercings & shaven havens, and the girls of JAV have stayed all natural.
2. Creativity. I have often thought that British porn could be improved immeasurably by taking some notes from the Japanese who know how to make porn interesting, surreal & above all fun! and it can all be achieved by using very little money.

Until women taste for the fake, harsh and inked in western culture reverts to a more feminine and natural style and that in turn is reflected in the porn industry I will stick to the Japanese and Classic American films of the 1970's and early 80s.
