Hi guys,
I'm a newb so don't bite me! lol
I am an experinced filmmaker. Mainly in short films and corporate junk.
It aint fun, and it's not paing the rent.
So... since I enjoy adult entertainment, why not try and be a part of it?
I've seen a few people showcasing their work on places like adultwork, but I want to be a little more professional than that :0/
I dont want to be one of those cheapo sleezebags I read about on these forums.
But I'm just starting out, with virtually no capital, bessides all the gear. I have a Sony Z1, and lighting and everythign I need to shoot and edit.
Where can I find out about contracts, copywrights, where to find the same caliber girls as Killergram etc. and most importantly, how do I make this business make a profit? : )
Killergram girls and productions seem to be every bit as good as the stuff produced in LA etc. But does that come with a hefty price tag?
Forgive me if you answer this line of question everyother day!
Thanks ladys and gents! !bow!

Re: Makin' movies 101
Just to give you some basic answers.
You would own the copyright.
You would need to get model release forms for the models to sign if you are going to be selling the content and a form of ID that is government issued proving they are 18+. Either a passport or a driving licence.
Booking the models is easy once you can provide references. If you don't have references then it's best to start out by booking a studio so the shoot will take place where the model knows the studio owner will be there to cater for her safety.
Doing a few of those will help to get your references going.
You can book models from agencies, model sites like net-model & purestorm, and can even contact them from this forum if they post here.
You will need lots of capital. This is not a cheap game to get in to.
Also, if you plan to be involved in performing in the shoots as your username possibly suggests, then you will need to have up to date health certs.
Finally, to make money back you need to be able to sell the content on somehow. As you don't want to go the adultwork route, then your only real options are starting a paysite with your content, but unless you know how to bring lots of traffic to a site then I would not go down that road, or selling your content to paysites/magazines etc.
The latter requires building up contacts over time and can be a slow process but can also be the best way to make a profit on your work.
Don't get in to this business unless you don't mind possibly losing money and you are prepared to put in a lot of work even during the times when money is coming in slowly.

Hey thanksfor the solid advice.
Do you have an idea where I can find model release templates?
...erm, also *cough cough* I just realised that the username povboy is... a gay porn site. lol I think I might have to change my name.
Can it be done here?
Doh!

I suppose the one thing I would add to Welshmorphs excellent reply is that you need to choose your niche very carefully & research it thoroughly.
When you shoot content, work out what will make what you offer different to whats already out there, research your niche and have a plan of where and how you'll sell it on, be it a paysite, a content sale or PPV or whatever

Your niche, POVboy, could be you're the only straight porn film maker with a gay porn website name... That's utterly unique
(Unless there's a gay porn website called Jim Slim that I don't know about.)
I've bleated on here before about the following, but as you're coming into this afresh, I'll say it again.
Things that ruin porn:
Close ups of a guy's faked gurning face as a cutaway just before the cumshot. No man wants to see this.
Music: between sex scenes, sure. During? Not unless it's on an optional audio track, no!
Creaky camera housing or heavy breathing of a cameraman - use a seperate sound source or boom pole.
Bad lighting: if the camera can't see it, neither can we.
Extended faked female orgasms: despite the myths to the contrary, men can tell.
Bad dirty talk: Max Hardcore was a master of this annoying audio commentary - "School girl wants it's up the ass. D'ya want it up the ass, little school girl? Ooh, it's up the school girl's ass now." Yeah, shut up.
The most almighty sin of all: plot. No one, unless you were a very experienced comedy/drama writer/director before hand, wants to see a porn film with a plot as this will always mean poor acting, bad dialogue and worst of all, LESS SEX! We all fast forward through it anyway. Just get on with it.
Please keep this in mind along with the other millions of things you have to recall from this thread when starting out! Good luck, I look forward to seeing your first film!

I will just add when shooting dont have any music playing in the background unless you own the rights to it, otherwise you will confront copyrights issues when trying to sell your product....

PMSL!
Man, you're totally right. But I sort of know all this from my filmmaking days.
Thanks for the heads you regradless. One thing that you missed...
As well as the stupid guys gurning face... I really don't want to be listening to him moan and groan either. I mean WTF is all that about? hehe...
Anything that takes you out of 'the moment', is just a no no : )
