I just saw this ad posted on a popular modelling website;

"UK's leading men's mag is looking for girls aged 18-30 for "real girl" specials. The work is unpaid (though pictures from your current portfolio will often suffice) but may lead to full pro shoot in the mag. It is also huge exposure with a readership of over 1 million"

WTF? The words, "Unpaid", "May", "1 Million", "Huge exposure", leap from the page.
Why on earth would anyone model for a publication on these terms?
Why can't a "leading UK mens mag" with a 1 million readership afford to pay the models it uses? It screams EXPLOITATION & SCAM.

Yes it is taking the piss, and yes, they will be innundated. Just make sure that we, the dwindling few who actually pay models, NEVER offer any of these stupid girls a paid shoot when they come looking.

Why pay a model, a photographer and all that gubbins when you can get a girl to send in pictures from her portfolio?

I can't think of a magazine that sells over 1 million (perhaps Zoo or Nuts sell that many in a month, I'm not sure)

Wasn't there a poll last week saying loads of girls want to be glamour models?

There are countless girls out there that would love a chance like this, even if it is a scam, what have they got to lose by sending in some pictures?

Aren't you being a bit harsh to the girls there ? Models who are really keen to get into the industry surely deserve help and protection from people like yourself against these exploitation merchants.
Some of these girls will be young and inexperienced, to call them stupid seems harsh.
Its a shame the magazine in question can't be named

MONEY!!!!!!!! The very fact that the images can be used, sold & resold for publication anywhere! making everyone money except the model.
Aren't models in the business of selling their image for money? You're right that so many wannabees will do anything for nothing just to get noticed. As we all know a models career can be very short & in this business the new face, 1 shoot, NEXT! is all too familiar.
Maybe I've got it wrong? perhaps the magazine staff all work for free & the publisher prints & distributes for free?
But if the girls are tempted they should all remember:
Q. What do you get for free?
A. FUCK ALL!!

Some time ago I joked that we photographers would one day be asked to pay the mags to print our pic's. Well we're nearly there now. Which mag is it ?? I can guess !!

They don't say they are selling a million magazines, they say they have a readership of over 1 million, 'subtle' difference used by magazines to up their ad rates. They might sell 100.000 and claim that every issue is read by ten people, according to their own surveys. And no, you never get to see those surveys...

What magazine was it? if its Maxim or FHM, there are many girls who will do it for free just to say they were in the mag and lets face it, they dont have to fuck anyone or suck anyone off for the 1 million readership to see.

Furthermore, those mags will do it because they can get the fittest birds ever ijn the UK to do it. Thats life. get used to it.

Photographers in some girls minds are like rock stars and more often than not get just as much sex as rock stars because every girl (or most) loves to have pictures taken of themselves. Video is not usually most girls first choice.

Most girls, even the top ones found their way into video first by a photographer. its rarely the other way round. Read between the lines here and you find that its not always about the money Cerberus but I can understand why you are mad. The ladies...Sometimes I not understand them.
