Well there are two trains of thought on this matter:

1) Sometime in June we will

2) When Hell Freezes Over!

Personally I hope R18 will be on our screens sometime in June as OFCOM will release the new Broadcasting Code then.

If R18 isn't allowed then I think it would be about time that someone like Playboy or TVX should start some sort of legal action - I mean this IS the 21st Century not the Victorian Era!

Can't see it happening. How can the TV companies convince OFCOM that they can control who is watching?
Its impossible to stop a determined under 18. At least in shops who sell R18 or 18 rated DVD's and Videos there is an obvious culprit if an underage customer gets hold of one.
Should an underage viewer get access to a R18 channel who is to be held responsible?
Think of the legal problems that could occur when parents start suing companies for allowing their children to watch?
I hope I am wrong but I just can't see them being brave enough to let it happen

I think its looking likely for PIN access cable broadcast but I'm still sceptical if we'll ever see the day when a cock enters a fanny and spurts jets of white man mess over upturned faces yet. Its funny isnt it? You can see a young pretty screaming co-ed get her head cut off in a horror movie for entertainment on Sky but the powers that be dictate we can't see acts of human kindness such as sex. Well, it depends on your definition of kindness of course.

Other countries manage perfectly ok. At the end of the day it's the parents responsibility to limit their childrens viewing, but in reality most 15 year olds have seen porn on the net and it isn't really going to do them any harm at all ... and the really determined 15 year old could point himself a dish elsewhere in the sjy and watch xxx till he passes out with exhaustion.

I totally agree with you on this. I doubt a bit of the old in/out would do any normal youngster coming up any long term psychological problems either. I first stumbled on my first porn when I was young and didnt really know what to make of it then except I was fascinated. I think eductation on this subject is responsible rather than shoving it under the carpet so to speak.

I agree it should be allowed. But the question really was "will it be allowed"
I just cant see them being brave enough

We haven't even commented on what the Governments attitude will be! Remember there are still some politicians who want Page 3 Banned

A DVD purchased from an adult sex shop when taken home is even more likely to be found by an under age person than an under age person is likely to obtain a Pin number and break into a sex channel.

Taking that obvious risk in mind "sex" shops are not banned just licensed. I see no reason why sex channels should not have the same right as sex video stores and operate under strict licence and conditions. No excuse for banning at all.

However having said that I am a sceptic and believe that Ofcom will make excuse after excuse to delay for as long as possible R18 on the Sky platform. It could take as many years for R18 to be on TV as it will to attempt to ban or control R18 stuff on the internet..Not an easy task but could cause so much inconvenience and stop a lot of folk from trying to get it… In the long run R18 may not be on either UK TV or so easily available on the internet of the future....Control freaks and religious nutters don't give up control that easily. They constantly work to extend their control freak environment...

R18 will be on our TV screens for those who wish to view it, as Ofcom would have to recommend proscription to a dozen Euro Sex channels.

Ofcom can only recommend proscription orders when a channel broadcasts material stronger than R18 and even those that do, ie Extasi, still have not be proscribed by the DCMS.

So I can image the content board at Ofcom sitting around scratching their heads at the moment asking themselves,"if the Government doesn't proscribe material stronger than R18, how the hell do we ban legal R18?"

R18 will definitely be regulated... period!
