This tactic of threatening broadband users just creates even more ill-feeling towards our industry than already exists
Jim! Jim! You gotta read the posts man! Youre right, going after people that way doesnt do anyone any favours but then neither does doing nothing.
The point of this is, they are going after the uploaders NOT the downloaders. Im sure this has been said about three times already in this thread

Re: Ben Dover at the High Court
Uploaders or downloaders? It doesn't make any difference, they will be STILL threatening many innocent broadband users who have had their routers used unwittingly by third parties to upload or download porn.
My website is a current and up to date site with new content every week, so believe me, any genuine attack on pirates I support. As I have also said a few times before, this is an attack ROUTERS not on people, they are serving nasty letters and threats on people who OWN ROUTERS that have been used to upload porn, it is no proof whatsover that the owners of these routers themselves did the uploading.
Ben Dover and Co can do what they like, its their business, however we will continue attacking the major sources of piracy located in places like Russia, not at Mrs Molly Scragthorpe's bungalow in 32 Acacia Gardens, who happens to live next to to a computer savvy porn junkie, who's hacked Molly's router........!happy!

Re: Ben Dover at the High Court
I'm sure this is the sort of thing that went on with ACS Law but the battle has to be fought from somewhere.
If there are casualties such as Little Miss Scragthorpe of 32 Acacia Avenue I'm sure there will be more effort to see if it was her actually uploading "Young Hard & Hungry" and "Lesbian Lavatory Lust" file she was accused of.
I reckon it was stories like this that was started by those who opposed any action taken against filesharing.
Most peoples broadband is secured these days so I doubt ther eis mthat much piggy backing going on. That excuse is old already. Especially when your routers are supplied with a default wireless key these days and has been for a long time now

Re: Ben Dover at the High Court
I believe that the websites and servers that help file sharing are legitimate targets but pursuing individuals en masse via the courts seems inappropriate for all of the reasons stated on this thread and may backfire.
I assume that the lawyers in this case are of the no win no fee variety if not I doubt that the returns will cover the costs involved in running this case.
If any of the people who receive these letters decide to argue the point the costs will escalate nicely even if it never comes to court, just an exchange of letters is a nice little earner for a solicitor.
Questioning the proof arguing the toss as to whether the sum demanded is reasonable, saying you haven't got the money or even ignoring the letter will run up a nice bill from the solicitors pursuing the filesharers.
If a fraction of the accused elect to contest in court the time and money could be phenomenal. I know of one copyright case where the costs awarded were about 2% of the actual costs so even winning could be costly. With the added danger that if one case out of the 9000 is lost there could be grounds to dismiss them all.

Re: Ben Dover at the High Court
Ah yes but if its the lawyers that take it on themselves by requiring the support of the industry then that works even better.
If it isnt costing me a penny why should I say no?
Scaredy cats will say you will put your reputation on the line and be unpopular but I say I'd rather be unpopular by upsetting people, especially if they are nice to your face but give your stuff away behind your back.
I dont class those people as friends or fans.
If I don't make money I cant do shoots and nor can I employ people to do those shoots. I dont mind people enjoying my stuff but you gotta see it from the investors point of view which I notice some posts on here seem to begrudge the rights of.
