Communism was on its way out, facism never got a look in and China was more interested in trade than war. So the pope was a former member of the Hitler youth was he? Well I can allow the exhuberances of youth whether he had a choice in the matter or not but I subscribe to the belief that a lot of people can change their minds and their ways over a period of time and not hold it against him.

I wont cast any aspersions on his character than to say he was way out of line saying what he said and can forgive him on the basis that the best humans of our species can be prone to fucking up from time to time.

He just made a boo-boo is all and he couldnt have done it at a better time. Oh well, he did the good christian thing and apologised anyway.

If one were to give a lecture on World War Two, for example, might it not be reasonable, in that context, to be able to quote from Mein Kampf or a Hitler speech without fear of accusations of anti-Semitism?.

I for one am sick and tired of everone pussyfooting around whenever Islam is mentioned. If you say anything against it, you are immediately labelled a rascist and we are forever hearing about the Muslim community etc as if it is expected that a Muslim is separate from the rest of the community because he chooses to because of his religion but must still be treated the same as everyone else.
Islam is a violent religion, fatwahs are sanctioned by chuch leaders against anyone who speaks out against them or even tries to discuss Islam (see Salman Rushdie) It seems to be on a par with Catholicism in the 14th century and needs to catch up with the rest of the world.
Outside the Finsbury Mosque, Captain Hook was allowed to spout hatred surrounded by his masked minders until he was arrested so he wouldn't have to be extradited to the US, Red Ken invites any tinpot zealot over here to slag us off while he sits there nodding sagely and every time an Asian is stopped and searched we hear screams of rascism.
Get a grip, in this country we allow anyone the right to follow whatever religion they want, we don't expect to have our laws changed however to suit minority religions, let them all live under the same laws as the rest of us and if they don't want to, they can go elsewhere.
