Mr Slip is absolutely right and its no good twisting his initial argument,
David Johnson, and trying to broaden the issue. The UK should always
have stuck by gold. It did us proud for a hell of a long time. Now it is
once again proving to be the wisest of investments ! I don`t know if it
is the greatest political blunder of all time but its certainly an economic
one to discount gold.

Hi

"Mr Slip is absolutely right and its no good twisting his initial argument,
David Johnson, and trying to broaden the issue."

Your comment makes no sense to me. Maybe I am missing something. The question Jim starts his post with is

"For sheer, "Doh!" factor, can anybody beat Gordon Clown's selling most of our gold just before it became the most vaulable commodity on Earth?. "

As far as I am concerned the Thatcherite privatisation of so many industries is a greater "doh!" factor in terms of its cost to the nation both since then and I suspect for time immemorial.

How on earth is this "twisting his initial argument" when I simply respond to his question?

Cheers

Yes you are correct in every respect, Europe PLC now owns everything in the UK and it is all thanks to , "Frau Thatcher". The evil cow, could have even stipulated that none of these utilities could NEVER fall into the hands of foreign companies, so much for "Tory patriotism".

However, those traitors to not only the British working class, but in fact traitors to all of us who work for a living, New Labour, could have made even the smallest effort to take some of the utilities back into public ownership. Water and gas would have been the first choice. Naturally, they did bugger all, no doubt the cunts had stashed away millions of shares during the Thatcher years.

They are all a bunch of crooked bastards. However, hate Thatch as much as you like, she did flog everything off to satisfy a political ideal, whereas Gordon Clown flogged off the gold because he is a stupid wanker.

So Clown is till winning, "Biggest blunderer" as far as I am concerned.

Sorry David, you are attempting in quite an amateurish way, to add New Labour style "Spin" to divert attention away from my original assertion. Frank is right, gold is a commodity you hang on to, you don't squander. Why did Brown throw it away, David? If Britain was in such a peachy economic state under your glorious, New Labour geniuses, did he even have the inclination, let alone need to sell our most valuable commodity?

I am afraid you cannot say Thatcher made a "Blunder", the dumb bitch was acting under a "Political mandate", which of course was stupid, but it was reasoned all the same. Gordon Clown squandered the gold because he was a dumb shit and was more than happy to throw away any money or reserves the country had, in order to satisfy his lust for wasteful squandering.

So Gordon Clown still wins, so far!

"Sorry David, you are attempting in quite an amateurish way, to add New Labour style "Spin" to divert attention away from my original assertion."

You asked a question at the start of this post. I answered it. If you don't want questions to be answered, best not to ask questions. It comes across as very silly or to use your word above "amateurish".

"to add New Labour style "Spin" to divert attention away from my original assertion. "

I love this. You ask a question. I answer. You do not agree with me. Therefore this is New Labour style "spin" Not entirely convincing as an approach to a discussion, Jim! Especially given you obviously agree with my point about the horrendous waste of Thatcher's privatisation program in your reply to Spider here.

By the way are you going to reply to Turanhosting's and Spider's intelligent comments or are you just going to ignore them and their points because they don't fit in with your view and/or you are totally unable to answer them?

Turanhosting
"In 1971 the Heath government sold off 500 tons of gold at a measly $35 an ounce, a quantity 25% more than Blair's government and at a price a fraction of what Brown's gold brought."

Spider
"I recall listening to a documentary on Radio 4 about Brown selling off the gold. It must have been about a year ago. This documentary posed the question as to why did Brown sell off the Gold Reserves to all these economists and bankers. They all, to a man, replied that selling off the gold at the time he did it was the right thing to do. I know economists and bankers are perceived to be the nearest thing to scum now, but when Brown did what he did they were part of a respected profession. The ?experts? they interviewed more-or-less said that ?world markets? considered investments in other currencies gave a better return than hoarding gold. Every other government was doing the same and Brown was right to sell when he did because the price of gold was falling because of this international policy of selling gold. I know the experts have now been proved wrong, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Calm down dear, you always get so shirty when you've painted yourself into a corner from where there is no escape!

There ARE occasions when you are simply going to have to throw in the towel and declare, "Yes, Jim you're right, Gordon Brown WAS a complete toss pot for flogging off all our gold at a knock down price!"

There are some occasions David, when even YOU must admit that the "omnipotence" of New Labour, actually got it wrong on occasions!

If it had been the Tories that had sold all our gold for next to nothing, you'd be acting like a crazed Rotweiller double infected with rabies and starving when shown a juicy steak! lol

You'd be doing a Red Indian war dance of sheer glee at the sheer folly of it all.

This time there is no comparison David, read my lips and repeat after me:

"GORDON BROWN WAS A STUPID DUMB FUCK FOR FLOGGING OFF ALL OUR GOLD FOR NEXT TO NOTHING.......FACT!"

You'll feel a lot better!!wink!

Jimbo

Post by David Johnson »

Ok.

Forumites will take that as a No, you refuse to answer Spider and Turanhosting's comments.

I think we have been here before Jimbo. It was somewhere between the 7th and 8th time you stated you weren't going to discuss politics on this forum because people shamelessly didn't always agree with you.

Cue - Jimbo tries to make out I am angry with him.
Cue - Jimbo tries to make out I should calm down.
Cue - Jimbo thinks he is trying to provoke me by calling me a New Labour brainwashed indvidual.
Cue - Well, we all know the rest.

You guys have been at eachother for months. I was like this with a girl I knew between 12 and 15. Hated eachother, we did. Once I'd popped her cherry we were fine.

In other words, get a room!
